Apex Thin Blue Line trigger issue

I had the thin blue line trigger installed on an M&P shield 9mm. While the trigger pull weight is down I can only pull the trigger if I have the tip of my index finger on the trigger. Problem is I have bigger hands and longer fingers. So I have noticed while practicing with the gun in a quick draw and fire scenario the gun will not fire because sometimes my finger goes past the the tip of my finger and I can not engage the trigger correctly.

Has any else had this issue? I'm thinking it is probably best to go back to the old trigger because I did not seem to have this problem previously.

No. never had my finger go past the tip of my finger.
But I think going back to the old trigger is a good idea.

I had a similar issue with an Apex trigger on my Pro 9.
Very touchy needing exact finger placement or no fire.
I threw it away and reinstalled the OEM trigger.
No more issues. Trigger pull essentially the same.

Yup i have the blue line trigger installed on my shield. I called Apex about this and they said its a design they intended (i call BS) since it is primarily used as a carry pistol, not target pistol. It's a "safety" feature to make it harder to mis-fire. I run a simliar Apex kit (non blue line) on my 9c and it fires like butter with the same "safety" feature on it.

Either way - i kept it, but i know what you mean. When i let my buddies shoot it at the range, they think its jammed. Just keep practicing with it to get used to it.

I disagree. If it's going to be a carry gun then put the old trigger back in and leave it be.
Who wants to hope they practiced enough to make it fire when you need it to fire?
You're not going to be thinking about finger placement in a stressful situation you're just going to want it to go bang.

Is this new trigger a straight trigger or curved ? If straight swap for the curved trigger . NO shield in the family buy a 9C and a CORE , both with the curved apex trigger . No issues .

Mine is the Apex straight trigger so maybe that is the problem. I'd try the curved trigger from Apex but I don't feel like throwing anymore money on a gun that I got for less than $250. I'll throw the trigger up for sale next week at a discount after swapping it out.

The only issue I've had with the Flat Trigger is with the comp spring kit on my 1 5" pro, apparently it's so light the trigger safety contacts the frame before I fully depress the safety or something like that. I read a thread here about it. Doesn't do the same on my 5" CORE model.

Removed the Comp TRS and put the factory TRS back in and so far it cleared it up.

The flat trigger is sensitive to going past the tip of your finger vs the curved FSS trigger. My buddy likes to shoot with his finger past the tip so he doesn't like the flat trigger but loves the curved.

I personally think the flat trigger is awesome but I'm not carrying the 2 I have them in.

if you have the problem of basically not fully engaging the trigger safety you can file off a tiny bit of the back end of safety blade that actually blocks the trigger. it will make it so you don't have to pull it as far to disengage it. just be very careful not to take off too much because you can completely disable it. if it takes any more description than this for you to understand what I'm talking about then you probably shouldn't mess with it.

I've had similar issues if you use too light of a trigger spring with the FSS kits. if the trigger spring is too light, you can't put enough pressure on the saftey blade spring to disengage it before the trigger moves too far to the rear.

Might be a problem of where your placing your finger on the straight trigger . A lower placement of your finger on the trigger will press the safety lever in quickly and completely before the trigger starts moving to the rear were a higher finger position with a lite trigger pull may start the trigger moving to the rear before the safety levers pressed in enough to clear the frame ??

I was trying different positions on mine and that seems to possible to do even on a curved trigger with high finger placement . Maybe apex will exchange the trigger for you . Never hurts to ask .

The SD trigger shoe sometimes requires a bit of fitting to work. It's in the product info on the website. It basically just involves filing a bit on the over travel stop area on the back of the trigger shoe until the striker drops and then go a tiny bit more. pretty easy.

This is an interesting thread. I don't remember hearing of this problem before. Are you just resting the very tip of your finger on the side of the trigger? Otherwise, I don't see how it's possible to not disengage the trigger safety as the trigger is pressed. Are you trying to press the trigger at the first joint rather than the pad of your finger?

I have the FSS kit on my M&P45 and have never had the issue you describe. I also have large hands. Can you post a pic?

I understand the 60 days and not taking back a modified product but you can't install it? Good luck knowing if it's right for you without installation.

This is a common practice with just about everything. They'll take it back if it doesn't work, but not if you just don't like it. If it's unused, they can then resell it. If it's been installed, they can't resell it as new and now they have to take a hit just because you didn't like it. I think it's a fair policy though it does make it slightly more difficult to know if you really want it.

This is basically a ccw or nightstand gun. Don't have time to always get the pad of my finger tip on the trigger in a rushed moment. So yes sometimes my finger goes to the first joint which I stated having a larger hand.

Had the old trigger put on the gun got it back today and if I go to the first joint the trigger pulls which is what it is supposed to do. So just like others stated they went back to the old trigger also and no more problems. I liked the trigger if I had everything right, clean and crisp very little reset. But in a bad situation with a gun that will not fire I don't get shout "wait do over".

I hear you and think that you're probably doing the right thing for you.

I would love to spend some time with you at the range. I generally try to get people to use the middle of the first pad. That seems to give the best results at the target. However, if you're used to using the first joint and your accuracy is good, why change?

^this!! Agreed, 100% Far too many shooters try to focus so much on whatever the hot "operator" technique is and not what works best for them. I've seen so many try to talk about what the "correct" technique is and look down on people for not doing it the way they do and it irks me.

I'm with Rastoff on his trigger finger position because I found that I tend to pull my shots low left a bit when I double tap or rapid fire if I have the shoe resting in the first knuckle. If I'm shooting slow, it doesn't seem to matter though.

I would be a bit iffy as well if my carry or bedside table gun had a trigger that didn't quite work with my fundamentals. range gun... different story.
