Yesterday afternoon, my wife had to make a run to the local Aldi to pick up a few things. While IN the store a man came up behind her and put his arms around her waist, interlocking his hands. He claimed he knew and worked with me.

My wife and I, over the years have gone over basic self defense and situational awareness while out and about.

My wife KNOWING I didn't work with him, immediately defended herself. She dropped her weight, spun around, punched him in the stomach and back handed him in the neck/lower jaw. He fell backwards on his butt and slid on the floor. He tried to lie that he knew me and my wife countered his explanation.

Unfortunately he ran off before the police arrived. She made a report to the police and while talking to them another women came forward and stated the same guy had approached her in the store asking for money.

An interesting tidbit came out as well. He is targeting women that wear company logos on their shirts. The other woman wore a shirt that had the local FD symbol on it and said he was a firefighter too and knew her husband. My wife was wearing a t-shirt from a local HVAC vendor.

Because of our talks and the basic anti-rape training she took from the police, she was able to identify a threat, react and neutralize the threat quickly.

She choose NOT to be a victim. I am so, so proud of her. I'm also very happy that we sat down many times over the years and discussed situational awareness.

The time to prepare is before something happens not after.

Well done to the Mrs! I wish more ladies would crack these perv's in the jaw (or southern hemisphere) more often! It makes we police officers laugh...no really, it does. We (I) have no problem with street justice when a victim deals out some pain to some punk who desperately needs it!

*Funny side note:
A few years back there was a perv going around flashing women near swimming pools at apartment complexes and 55+ parks. One of the incidents I was personally involved in; he went to a 55+ trailer park's pool and entered the women's dressing room and dropped trou in front of two ladies. Instead of the usual screams, shock, looks of terror etc. they both looked at him, looked at each other then bust out laughing & pointing at his nether region. One of the victims said to him: "that's all you got?" and he promptly pulled up his britches and fled.

I could barely interview them as I was trying to maintain a professional demeanor, but I was cracking up. They weren't too offended either, in fact they were proud of themselves for putting his rotten self in his place! The detectives working the case thought my report was hilarious. I just wrote what they told me.

He was eventually arrested on multiple counts of being a public perv.

On a more serious note, the actions described by Kodiacko are disturbing. That behavior displayed by the perp will evolve into something worse. I'd venture to say he's just getting started with the public lewdness. However, the shalacking he got may be a deterrent? Hard to say. I just hope he doesn't target children as adults are too feisty. Hopefully the local LE can catch his dumb butt and lock him up sooner than later.

I applaud your wife for her quick thinking and not putting up with the assault. I couldn't really blame her if she finished up with a good swift kick, or stomp to the pork and beans.

Yea kind of like in this case - Part of my job is to inspect and receive new RVs at the dealership I work at. Some of the transports drivers are 'unsavory' characters and quite frankly I get them signed off an gone as soon as possible. About a year ago one of them put his arm around one of our new receptionists (a very attractive and nice girl) She told me about this later and didn't know what to do so I told her if she EVER feels uncomfortable about a transport driver (for any reason) to call me immediately. She didn't remember at the time who he was driving for (I had several that day) or I would have call his dispatcher and told them never to dispatch him for a delivery to our dealership again. The transport companies don't want to hear this but I have had to do it with a few over the years - for various reasons. Bottom line - unless it's your wife or GF - HANDS OFF!

Back in 2001 a good friend of mine out in Utah was going through a contested divorce, but things had not yet really heated up.

One evening, while it was still light, a guy knocked at her front door asking for her husband. He was big and bearded but seemed gentle enough, and so, when she told him that they were separated and he was living at his parents' and he asked if he could step in to use the phone to call him, she said OK.

Once inside the house, he attacked her. He grabbed for her, pulled a large Bowie knife, and moved towards her. My friend, all 5'4" 105 pounds of her, grabbed the Bowie knife by the blade, put her shoulder into his gut, and drove him backwards until he fell backwards down the stairs into the basement, with Susan still "engaged."

He was moving more slowly at the bottom of the stairs than he had been at the top, and my buddy, in the struggle, had somehow come up with the knife. Pointing it at his kishkas, she told him he had 10 seconds to get out of the house.

He made it out the door in nine.

She called the cops. He got arrested. Turned out her husband's parents had paid this guy $500 to do the murder in order to save on child support. They all did time. The husband got life.

My buddy? She and her two kids are doing fine. They moved to outside of Tuscon a while back, and she found a guy who loves her.

Susan has always been a physical, but not a particularly aggressive, person. She hunts elk and quarters them and humps them out herself. She told me after this went down, "All I could think of was my two kids and the adrenaline kicked in." I'll say it did.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

Kodiako—I am not familiar with "Aldi" but I assume it is a retail store of some sort? I bet they have security cameras!? If so that should help the police catch this unhinged lunatic before he assaults someone else not as skilled in self defense as your wife. (Also your wife should view the footage—I am sure she would get a kick out of seeing herself opening up a can of whoop *** on him)!

I am so glad this turned out the way it did and I hope this is her last brush with ner-do-wells.

Kudos to the woman warrior you married. It is enriching to read about defense like she did.

You might have he look into one slight change in her sequence. It is the upper palm thrust. You strike with the palm of th hand directly under the chin. It snaps the BG's head back ans puts stress on the juncture where the brain stem meets the spinal column. I don't think he would have been able to run away with that one because it takes minutes to recover from it. The greatest danger is that if you strike very hard you can send the Perp to visit his ancient ancestors. Semper Fi to warrior bride.
