How Many Will YOU Buy!!??

As far as I'm concerned I would not be a buyer for the 1911's. I found out that the last new 1911's the gov bought was in 1943, and by the time we got them in 11B ait-and then in the Nam, they were junk. No one on roving patrol carried one, they rattled, were unreliable, and dangerous-to say nothing about the lack of accuracy. We all had revolvers that we had to find on our own.

I'm intrigued at the possibility that you might score one of the rarer manufacturers. I wonder if any Singer M1911A1s are still in inventory?

I just looked at the CMP website and found out that they have a store in Anniston, Alabama. And my daughter and son-in-law only live about 25 miles away from it! :D Sounds like there is a store visit as well as a visit to the kids in my near future. I know that if I find a 1911 I would want that I would have to get it shipped to my FFL in Louisiana, but I should be able to walk in and buy a Garand. The rifle range I belong to is listed with the CMP.

I live fairly close to Anniston. Never been to cmp but if your into long distance shooting talladega has a 600 yard range now as well I think it is computerized and has a screen to tell you where you hit and everything.

There's already been much discussion about this and there are a number of things to consider.
CMP has not received the pistols yet and no one knows when or even if they will.
CMP's charter will have to be amended by Congress to allow them to sell handguns.
CMP is under staffed as is. Preping pistols for sale will take considerable time.
The guns will have to be packed up, shipped, unpacked, inspected and repaired as needed before going on sale.
Last rumors are that price is expected to be around $1000 each.
Best guess is that the first guns won't be for sale for about 2 years.
Absolutely nothing is confirmed yet.

While it all sounds good, all we can really do is wait and see. Remember, politics is involved.

Probably not,,at least I'm not sitting around thinking & planning for it.
Lots of unkn's and what if's,,,,plenty of stuff right out there on the market now for sale at what these are being speculated at being priced at.

2 years out?,,getting close to an election again. May as well be 20 yrs out the way events happen and public opinion changes.

Raritys,,probably some in the bunch, but don't expect any to be lying an a pile a cosmoline covered mismatched worn out 1911A1's at the CMP store for a giveaway price.

These folks know their business as well they should, the best and rarest will be pulled from the lot and set aside.
If sold to the public, they will be priced as market value. Many, I suspect will never make it to the display case,,too many insiders. That's just the way it is.

Is this all a good thing?,,yes, but I don't look at it as the DCM days of a $14.95 NIB rearsenaled 1911A1 showing up in your mailbox.

Yep, sure:rolleyes:

I am still waiting for the M1m 30 carbines to come back from Korea, Guess the Govt needs to buy them back after we "loaned" them.

I waited 2 years for my case of 22 RF ammo.

CMP used to have lots of good stuff.

I'm very disappointed. :( When I read the title: "The U.S. Army Is Selling Some of Its Most Powerful Guns", I was looking for something like this:

I was going to buy two...

I like my 1911's. But, I do not see this possible upcoming availability as much of an opportunity to snare a nice rare piece for $1000.
If you have checked out the CMP site in the last year or so, you likely have noticed that the 'desirable' items are put up at auction. And when you see some of the prices being paid, you will realize that there are people out there with pockets much deeper than many of us have.
In the 1911 community there have been vibes that this (supposed) release of stocks will negatively impact the 1911 collectors by deflating prices. I don't see it that way, when the banter is that they will be going out the door for $1000. That price, if at all accurate, will most likely be for common pieces in average condition. The good stuff will command high prices and perhaps even create a feeding frenzy. Your best bet may be to try to find one locally or at a gun show for what a reasonable price today actually is. I define 'reasonable' as the price at which the things are normally actually changing hands. And as we know, all of them are not created equal.

Is this new?? The govt is selling rimfires, 1911A1's and Garands.

As others have mentioned, no, this isn't new. And it's been an occasional topic for discussion here on this forum for a couple of years now, possibly longer. One thread about it can be found here.

As of now, there is still no information from the CMP as to when this might actually happen.

If you want to be kept up to date on the status of the 1911s, get on the CMP's mailing list.

The old 1911's will come later this year.

There's only a little over a month left in this year. The CMP hasn't even received any of the 1911s yet. So they aren't gonna hit the market in 2017.

Well, if you want a Garand from them, I'd plan on getting one ASAP. The CMP is sold out of quite a few grades. You can see what they have available by clicking here.

They are completely sold out of M1 Carbines, 1917 Enfields, and the M1903/1903A3. They aren't even accepting orders for them, and don't even expect to get any more M1 Carbines.
