If only one gun? Can't do it...

I could do it in three,
LCP
G23
Blackhawk.45 convertible

Home, town, woods and city.

If I could only have one it would undoubtedly be my
Sig P229 Legion in 40 S&W ... would add the Beretta PX4
in 9mm if I could only have 2 ..

That's easy. For me it would be my Browning High Power MKIII.

Hard choice between my BHP MK III and a 4-inch 29-2, although the 29-2 does permit the hunting of deer sized game at the relatively close distances we typically experience around here.

Only on gun....to do everything? I don't currently own one but a 16-50 or a 16-66! That's a 16" naval canon either 50 or 66 bore diameters long! A little rough on deer hunting but very good at Home defense (or is that Homeland Defense?)!

Easy enough:

A 3 inch or 4 inch S&W L frame .357 or a Ruger
3 inch or 4 inch GP 100.

But I remember years ago a sort of "survivalist"
saying that for a handgun he'd pick a Ruger
Blackhawk convertible in .357 with a spare
9 mm cylinder.

No handgun for me would be a one gun choice. Cant hunt much big game in my neck of the west with handguns. Ninety five percent of meat I eat comes from my hunting. Full sized rifles are too cumbersome for everyday packing so I would choose the following for a one gun life.
Ruger 77 Mark II International carbine in 308 Win. Optional quick release scope mounts and a 3-9 power compact Leupold scope. Iron sight for daily carry.

If I had too, I could get by with a 4 inch 629. Do everything from plinking and range use, to self defense and hunting. I'm not real sensitive to weight, and it carries well in a pancake holster on a good belt.

The same argument could be made for a steel frame 1911 in .45acp.

All accomplished with the versatility handloading provides.

Ok, let's get this straight. I did not say only one gun.
In fact, I said that I can not do that.
Don't turn this into a " one gun only" thread.
I was just showing off my EDCs.

Thankfully as an American Citizen I don't have to choose. If I were somehow forced to choose just one, the reason why I was forced to choose would play heavily on my decision of which firearm I would need.

This is an important point to consider. Normally, I would just say my 642-1, since it's reasonably powerful, reasonably controllable, and can be carried concealed a number of different ways, depending on the situation.

But if the reason for said restriction also included a prohibition on concealed carry, I would likely change my choice as that's the 642's biggest strength. If carrying the gun was not an option, I'd likely stick with my Beretta 92FS as I'm very familiar with it, I can shoot it well, and it's been proven reliable. It currently serves the HD role for me.

I'm glad I don't have to choose.

It's interesting to follow the threads " If you could only have one gun", but I can never get it down to one.
Best I can do is 5. These are the ones that have become my favorites and cover all seasons quite well.

I do not own ANY guns that are that small,, even my rimfires are larger,,,
so, I guess we each have our own tastes,, :D

I do have the "tiny" Glock 17,,,
and this could be considered my smallest S&W,,,

I have a "K" frame, but, it is a longer barrel,,,

Like I always tell my wife "A man doesn't play golf with one club".
I live by that rule with all my hobbies/passions but never play golf.

I could get down to one handgun if I HAD to, but I don't know which one...

I'd have to have a rifle though, so that's two total. :D

There is an old a wise saying, "use the right tool for the job."

There are a lot of different firearm jobs that one may need to do during their life. I firmly believe to use the proper and best tool for those different jobs. I can make a quick list of 20 0r 30 different firearm jobs that may need to be done.
