Apex Barrel in 2.0?

can I "like" this post 100,000 times? Thanks again Randy for taking the time to share your knowledge... its pretty rare these days. I am for sure going to picking up some barrels and one of those fitting jigs you came out with so I can do the gunsmith fit type for a couple of my guns.
There's a jig for a gun Smith fit? What did the gunsmith fit do over a semi?

The semi drop in is made to drop in with little or no fitting requirements so the tolerances are made to fit an average of gun samples so the end user doesn't have to do very much, if anything. The gunsmith fit won't work until you custom fit it to your gun by filing certain portions like Randy was talking about. They have a jig available now that helps you do that. It's around $40 or something like that. It's on their website under the barrels section I think. Actually I'm sure if I even need that.. I'm pretty handy around my shop.

Hand fitting to your specific gun will mean even better accuracy and being able to make it do exactly what you want it to. Randy said in a previous thread that he had at least one of his barrels shot a .3 inch group at 25yds from a ransom rest. That is serious accuracy... especially from a "Tupperware " gun as the old guys like to call them.

I probably wouldn't notice much of a difference in accuracy between the two because I'm sure I'm not that accurate of a shooter, but I like to tinker and make things "mine" so I do. If I only had one I wouldn't mess around with it too much but I'm lucky enough to have a few... so I can play

So if I have a barrel thats capable of shooting .3" groups and I shoot 2" groups with my stock barrel, will that potentially close my groups to something tighter even if I'm an "ok" shot? I'm still new! Not to shooting in general, just pistol.

I tend to take a scientific approach to accuracy. If I know for certain that one of my pistols will print sub 1" out of a Ransom, then I have an asymptote to work towards- sort of an accuracy goal for myself that I may or may not ever attain shooting off hand, but I derive pleasure from the pursuit of accuracy by increasing my skill level. For me its the journey and not necessarily whether I attain the goal. But that's just me.

Others derive their satisfaction from the fact that their pistol is "accurate enough" for their needs.

I think both perspectives intersect at the point of the human element- that is where the most work needs to be done.

If your stock barrel will consistently do 2" at its best, then it really depends upon you whether you are satisfied with that group size or not. Unfortunately there are no guarantees that fitting a barrel to any gun will make one a better shooter- there are just too many variables that can affect accuracy. All it does is improves the possibility of shooting tighter groups. But it always comes back to the marksmanship skills of the shooter.

...then I have an asymptote to work towards

dang, what a word...asymptote. I had to look that one up!!

noun, Mathematics.
1.
a straight line approached by a given curve as one of the variables in the equation of the curve approaches infinity.

Sorry, the nerd is strong in me...
