S&W 1911pc ?

View attachment 320365So i put this S&W 1911 pc on layaway $950. a few months ago & jus got it out the other day. I have only shot it twice on new years, its not the PC with the lightning cuts or blued barrel. The book says it was made in 05 the 2nd yr of S&W making 1911's product code 170258 . My question is if anyone has bad experiences with these firsts pc's & how well do you guys like them. I cant find anything on YouTube or the web about these early 1911'spc's. Thanks

I have a non-PC rail gun from about 2005 that has been flawless. I only have about 1,000 rounds through it, and don't shoot it much, but I won't let it go. Congrats on your purchase.

I have the same gun with a serial number just a few away from yours. The only issue I ever had with the gun was the trigger was fitted too loose in the frame at the factory so I replaced it with a Wilson ultra light match unit. At the same time I tuned the trigger pull to 2.5 lb.

Purely for preference I replaced the mainspring housing with a Smith and Alexander arched housing with a flared mag well.

I use the gun in bullseye matches with LSWCs and it works well.

The only issue I've had with mine was the mushy thumb safety that seems to come on all S&W 1911's. I sent mine off to C&S and they gave me a springfield armory feel to the thumb safety, meaning tight. Then off to Metaloy Industries for their finish, and now, roughly 38k rounds later, I've not once had a malf, including the use of steel cased ammo.

I think you will find it to be a very well made 1911. I have one of the first 500 made and it is a pleasure to shoot. There was a recall on some of the first one's, not sure how far into production it went but it was something to do with the slide. S&W will replace it if it is bad at no charge. Check their home page for the listings of recalls. Enjoy your new 1911.

I have two PC 1911s, the five-inch .45ACP with the lightening cuts in the slide and a Doug Koenig edition .38 Super made in 1989. Both guns run flawlessly and are very accurate. Overall, I've found S&W 1911s to be very good and now have three of them. Mine also see nothing but cast semi-wadcutter handloads.

Forgot to mention that aside from extended slide stops for my arthritic fingers and fancy wood grip panels, my guns are box-stock. I've only ever adjusted the sights and trigger stops.

Yea i dont like the extended slide stop im just goin to get the normal 1

S&W makes an excellent 1911. I have the model that immediately followed the "Billboard" model. It's been flawless.

You might check to see if it has a mechanical firing pin stop. S&W had ones which were activated off the grip safety but now related to the Colt Swartz or Kimber. If yours has it then it is just some extra parts to be aware of.
