Those involved:

The Individual
Parents or Caregivers
Teachers
The Students that knew
The Mental Health Counselors
DCF
The local Sheriff and Police Departments
The school Resource officer
(not even gonna dwell on TV, Movies <video games)

All these people KNEW but nothing was done. Once again the system failed this poor MAN, ( I believe they want to use that defense?)

It is so much easier to just blame GUNs !

What if another method was used? Would there be this much outcry??

the answer is NO..... a few years ago an honor student was beaten to death with baseball bats and 2x4's outside the high school that i graduated from...there were no protest rallies, no groups demanding the change of laws and little coverage by the media......

Not really surprised,bunch of people drawing big pay checks doing little to no good. Pass a feel good law and the problem will go away seems to be the norm. For someone to commit mass murder they are definitely a sick puppy. Seems like all the government orginazations ,top to bottom,failed this kid and the public in unbelievable fashion.

Who is to blame?

The Blame lies with the school board,the state. The kids are not being protected.The next day kids all over the country should have been standing out in front of their schools and said We are not going inside that school until we are being protected by security measures. All of us can't get on a jet planes or go into court houses until we are checked by machines and security people. Teachers went to college to become teachers no guards. This latest shooting should change and update security measures. Hire trained people and buy equipment security machines. Stop with the AR15. It,s to late this country has the guns Thank God. It,s time for BIG CHANGE. The money will come from new tax that the citizens will go for because it is needed.

Think about this - in 200 years the US never lost a war. Until the "draw" in Korea. I think it was 1949 when the Supreme Court banished prayer from schools and in the years that followed, prayer at government places.

There was more court cases and legislation that turned religious freedom on its head. Freedom of religion was now freedom from religion.

Morals began a disappearing act in the 60's.

Roe v Wade came out in 1973 as we were evacuating from Vietnam.

And court decisions and laws since "calling evil good and good evil" have steadily eroded any notion of public recognition of God's law, accelerating at a dizzying pace over the last few years.

For over 5000 years, certain lines were set. And in the last 50 years man has become his own god with little restraints upon him.

If you don't want to consider the fact that those who drift away from God lose His grace and protection, take a look at history. There is a pattern in the decay of every great empire and society Without a rudder, rules go away, apathy and self interest replace drive and e pluribus unum, and it collapses upon itself.

We are a society lost. Prescriptions replace parenting, and everone is entitled to everything paid for by someone else.

I don't mean to preach nor offend, but my personal view is that when you not only ignore, but reject and replace God saying you don't need Him, we suffer the consequences of the loss of His grace.

What do we expect?

Things will only get worse unless we turn back. What we are seeing are warnings, and a chance to change. And if things fail to get our attention, to get our attention, something increasingly dire might.

Years ago, during my cop days, I was interviewed by the local newspaper. The reporter wanted to know what I thought was the cause of crime in our area. I told her that the breakdown of the family unit and moving away from the Lord Almighty was the cause. And, the paper actually printed my response!

Just because I liked your post does not mean I agree with your comments. I did take time to read all the posts to this point. I respect your views.

Mental Health laws began changing it 1961 with the election of JFK. Mental health hospitals were warehouses for people with mental health issues. some folks that were committed to these hospital had problems with depression that had lead to a suicide attend. the ER doctors would call the police the police would call a judge the the judge sign a order placing the person in the hospital. There was little if any Judaical review of the patient to insure they were getting the care the courts ordered.

I can say that I know this to be true. My mother suffered from depression, one episode got really bad she cut her wrists and was taken to the ER and ended up in a state mental hospital. she spent 2 and a half years there. She was treated with ECT.( electro shock therapy) and other medications. I took my father having to go to court to get then court to review her treatment.

I worked as a social worker in the county community mental health I saw some of the results of the closing the state hospitals, I saw how difficult it was to get people treated that were a danger to them selves. The mental health center at the local level were encouraged to develop ways to treat these folks locally (not is local hospital that might have a mental health ward). If someone did need to be admitted one of the few state hospital took several doctors to convince a judge; or the person was involved with the legal system.

I always tried to do my best to ensure that the patient I was treating was given the best treatment and follow-up care. I did spend several years working on the crisis intervention team. We saw people at the local hospital ER. Again we were expected to keep people out of the hospital due to cost to the agency. I did my best to make sure the client was safe getting the treatment they needed. If I was unsure about a person I would error on the side of safety and get a court order, if they person was ordered into the hospital they were on a 72 hour
hold. Yes I was given unpaid time off because of my decisions.

So not all systems work, some were meant to benefit special groups. When people are being treated for mental health problems follow up needs to be done by all agencies involved in the treatment and follow up services.
