"Repeal The Second Amendment"

Amending our constitution requires a 2/3 approval of the House, 2/3 approval of the Senate then 3/4 of the states (38 I think) must approve it. Our founding fathers were very wise when they made it this difficult to change our governing document.

Yes, but when the judicial activists have 5 votes on the U.S. Supreme Court, they can and do effectively amend the Constitution as they see fit, regardless of the text or history on a particular issue. After that, if anyone criticizes such a ruling and suggests it should be overturned, they howl about "respecting precedent." However, the liberals have no serious inhibition about calling for the reversal of Supreme Court precedents that are based on the actual text and history of the Constitution, if those rulings impede their policy agenda (Heller, McDonald, or Citizens United, for example).

Maybe they need to be reminded of the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions.

I recently watched Iron Mountain which is about an investigation into the effects of peace rather than war that President JFK had ordered to be done. After JFK assassination then President LBJ said the report was never to be made public. The report did get leaked out. In the movie it says the 2nd will be negated and actually if you look at what is and has been going on it is pretty much negated already. Anybody that thinks the 2nd has not been infringed upon has got to be blind and deaf. Just another perfect example that the 2nd will never happen. The barrels should long ago gotten hot.

Those that think the military will not follow orders to fire on civilians should think about the Karesh Branch Dividians in Waco Texas. Orders are orders and they were followed through. No constitutional bill of rights were allowed to those that were killed.

Actually it is my opinion that the 2nd will never happen because it is far to late now with the sophisticated military arms of today. BTW It is pretty hard to kill a shadow no matter how many times you shoot at it.

Let us not forget about Article V and those calling for a Constitutional Convention of States. This is something being pushed by the conservative side of thing and it scares me to death.

With a convention of states each state gets one vote and the delegates would be appointed by the politicians in each of our states. How many here really trust the political leaders in their states. I live in a pretty conservative state but i would not trust any of the political leaders in my state to not complete scrap the current Constitution and give our government more power and lessen individual citizen rights especially our god given right guaranteed by our 2nd Amendment.

I have a governor that doesn't believe in Constitutional carry. He vetoed it. He recently said he had no problem with raising the age to 21 for long purchases. He said nobody needs a high capacity magazine to hunt. He even said it would help us not carry around extra weight while hunting. Our Lt Governor recently talked in favor of demanding more government control and requirements for those that now can conceal carry on school campuses. That is here in the very conservative state of Utah and said by supposed conservatives that say they believe in the 2nd Amendment.

As we hear in every spy movie...trust no one.

Again even the Convention of States scares me to death. I see it as the end of our Republic.

My rant for the day, forgive typos, context errors and missed words.

"There is nothing worse than a fool except an old fool"

Two thirds of the states would need to recommend the repeal or 33 states. Highly unlikely. IIRC the only amendment ever repealed was prohibition and most of the country was not in favor of it when enacted anyway.

The trouble is that most of those that speak out are not really knowledgeable about firearms to begin with. They say that there is no need for 30 round magazines. OK so the gunman can carry 6 five rounders. DUHHHH?

The base issue here is that you CANNOT legislate against stupid or crazy. We live in a country where the manufacturers of every 5 gallon pail must put a warning label on the side showing that if your small child climbs into the pail head first that they can drown. (Go check your HD and Lowe's pails) REALLY, how about watch your kid?????

The Army didn't have enough tanks in Somalia because the tanks were sent to Waco against the Branch Davidians. After the Branch Davidians were burned out I figured that BATF stood for "Bring Another Ton of Firewood."

I'm more worried about SCOTUS than a repeal. I hope we get to
appoint another conservative to the court when Ginsburg is
carried out on a board. The confusing the public for the real
purpose is the everyday mission of the anti gunners.

There are actually 3 SC justices in their 80's.

She may not be the first to go.

......

Actually, it's two-thirds needed in both houses of Congress. Or for a special convention of the states. And THEN three-fourths, that's 38, of the states, to ratify.

And Prohibition was not part of the Bill of Rights, which may not technically make a difference, but practically made it much easier to repeal.

For those who would like to counter the belief by some that the 2nd amendment was strictly about militias, I believe you will find this woman not only informative, but one who can provide the history behind the amendment in a way even non-advocates can understand. She was one of the underlying reasons for the Heller decision.

Joyce Lee Malcolm & Heller v D.C. | National Review

A partial quote from the article:

Malcolm looks nothing like a hardened veteran of the gun-control wars. Small, slender, and bookish, she's a wisp of a woman who enjoys plunging into archives and sitting through panel discussions at academic conferences. Her favorite topic is 17th- and 18th-century Anglo-American history, from the causes of the English Civil War to the meaning of the American Revolution. Her latest book, due in May, is The Tragedy of Benedict Arnold, a biography of the infamous general. She doesn't belong to the National Rifle Association, nor does she hunt. She admits to owning an old shotgun, but she's unsure about the make or model. "I've taken it out a couple of times, but the clay targets fall safely to earth," she says in an interview at George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School in Virginia, where she's a professor who teaches courses on constitutional history as well as on war and law.

She is also the lady who saved the Second Amendment — a scholar whose work helped make possible the Supreme Court's landmark Heller decision, which in 2008 recognized an individual right to possess a firearm. "People used to ask, 'How did a nice girl like you get into a subject like this?'" she says. "I'm not asked that anymore." She smiles, a little mischievously. "Maybe they don't think I'm a nice girl anymore."

Prior to the 2008 Heller decision affirming the 2nd amendment provided for an individuals right to own firearms I got into some monumental arguments with lawyers I knew who of course were constitutional "experts". It was a point of great personal satisfaction calling them up after Heller was announced. IMO: There will be many more attacks on this fundamental right by those who have a far different view of our Country than you or I.
As an aside: I heard somewhere that there is supposed to be a mass demonstration in support of the 2nd Amendment in each State on April 14th. Does anyone have more information on this?

Registering to vote is extremely important however, sometimes these horrific events happen between election cycles and once legislation is passed it is much harder to overturn.

By supporting the NRA, increasing their membership it sometimes prevents these laws from being passed. The NRA can use the extra money to run ad campaigns while a bill is being discussed and hopefully convince lawmakers that the law is flawed. Stalling some of this terrible legislation in committee is sometimes the only way to defeat it.

I do not think the Founding Fathers anticipated at time when billionaires like Bloomberg and Bezos could afford their own media corporations... spewing out propaganda 24/7 through multiple formats....to forward their own political agendas.
Partisan newspapers, and newspapers started just to support a single candidate was the norm in the early 1800s, including Jefferson's win over Adams.

The Army didn't have enough tanks in Somalia because the tanks were sent to Waco against the Branch Davidians.

Huh? There were only two M1A1 Abrams tanks at Waco, and nine Bradley fighting vehicles.

And Somalia? Are you talking about Mogadishu? That was in October of 1993. The Waco siege took place in February-April of 1993, months before Mogadishu.

Tanks, or the lack of them, in Somalia have nothing to do with Waco. Or vice versa. Really, nothing.

And how does this tie in to any possible repeal of the Second Amendment, anyway?

The demographics of this country are changing rapidly. The "book answer" for anti-gunners is to follow the rules and change the Constitution through a lawful repeal of the Second Amendment. If you don't think this is possible in the next 20 years, you haven't been watching the news.
