So I asked about your favorite road trip gun last month. I had a road trip coming-up & was trying to decide what to take.

I just got back from my trip. This took me through CA, AZ, NM, CO, WY, UT, ID, & NV.

I took and carried my Glock 27 (.40 S&W) everyday, but I also brought something smaller. My Ruger LCP. I OWB carried in a Fobus with a large overshirt everyday (even while driving 5 1/2 to 8 1/2 hrs.).

I was glad to always have the gun on. This included several stops for gas and rest area bathroom breaks.

I stayed in Hotels. Some didn't offer a safe. This left the little LCP hidden in the suitcase. I really didn't need the LCP at all, and could have left it at home.

There was only one time I felt I had too much gun. That was during an Independence Day parade. I was sitting on the curb and felt I was probably printing. I guess the LCP would have worked than, but I had a mile walk back through the city to my room. I wasn't sure what to expect.

There also wasn't a time I felt I didn't have enough gun. I had 11 rounds of .40, backed-up my a 15 round mag.

At night I swapped the 10 round mag for a 13 rounder with grip adapter (Similar to a Glock 19/23 feel) and had my Surefire flashlight on the night stand next to the gun.

Due to the heat and all the walking around, A light weight J frame or Glock 43 would have been more comfortable. Nothing against the LCP, it's just a too small for my hands and has very small sights.

I only ran into one location that had a no guns sign posted. An Indian Casino in AZ (I was staying in the Hotel part, but had to go through the Casino to get to the food court).

I didn't bring more than 15 round mags into CO. And had to cancel my hotel in Aurora, CO due to the Hotel's no firearms policy (and City enforced). I changed hotels before my trip. It's good to research your area before you go.

The most aggressive drivers were on the 15 fwy between Las Vegas and LA. Everyone else was pretty mellow and actually drove the speed limit (didn't see one cop as I passed through WY). I saw a lot of great country & people.

Not sure I would carry anything different? Maybe my Glock 43 with a +2 mag options.

Those are the 2 I take on road trips too. The g27 will handle anything we're likely to encounter and the LCP is handy for bathroom and fuel stops. Done quite a few trips in our Motorhome in the states you mention and have always felt confident with my choices.

If you were to do it again would you leave the LCP at home ??
or carry it and leave the Glock at home ??

We're going to plan a trip to Seattle thru north California and the Red Wood's .. I'm undecide whether to take my Beretta PX-4, or S&W Compact my 2 normal carries or just my Sig p238 BUG …

Edit .. the sig would be the most comfortable and could be pocket carried ..

I would take the Glock again (actually a 26 in 9mm I just acquired). And probably the LCP.

My original intent was something small but shootable. The Glock IMO was the smallest for this role (although my G43 comes close). And I could still make it higher capacity if need be. The LCP for me is too small for that. I've got big hands. It's more of a BUG or hideout. Basically a shoot and run away from danger gun.

I probably should have carried the LCP a few times on my trip, but didn't want to leave the 27 in the room without being in a safe. I also could have used the lock box in my car, but didn't think about it at the time.

If you have a cabled lock box, this could substitute as a room safe.

So if I had to do it over, I would probably take the same guns and utilize my lock box more.

As you'll be traveling in CA, be weary of different jurisdictions and city ordinances. I purposely avoided SF a few years ago while traveling as I had 10+ mags with me.

I guess I don't understand this. How was this private industry policy enforced by the City of Aurora?

I found this info:

Aurora
Sec. 94-152. - Firearms on private property.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person, carrying a firearm, to enter or remain upon any private property of
another or any building or property of a commercial establishment when such property, building, or
establishment is posted with notification that the carrying of firearms is prohibited.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person, carrying a firearm, to remain upon any private property of another or
any building or property of a commercial establishment after such person has been given verbal notice that
the carrying of firearms is prohibited on such property, building, or establishment.
(c) Possession of a permit issued pursuant to C.R.S. 18-12-105.1, as it existed prior to repeal, or possession
of a permit or temporary emergency permit issued pursuant to pt. 2 of art. 18 of tit. 9 of the Colorado
Revised Statutes shall be no defense to a violation of this section.
Sec. 1-13. – General penalty Paragraph (i) states forfeit any weapon and ammunition plus fines.
(Handgunlaw.us recommends you read all of 94-152 and 1-13)
Handgunlaw.us 7

Note: Aurora is a city of the 1st class and can have more rights under Colorado Statutes to have certain ordinances than other cities. Handgunlaw.us believes until information comes forward that you treat all No Gun Signs on private property in Aurora as Having the Force of Law.

I called the hotel which stated they had a "no firearms policy" on the property.

Recalling the old adage that one is none, two is one and three even better.

I believe in carrying two every time I leave the house.

I am not sure that applies to your hotel room. That is your domicile while you are renting it, not unlike any apartment.
