The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

I just picked up this 28-2 from the local shop yesterday. The serial number is N88xxx, so I am guessing that puts the date of manufacture around 1982 or 1983.

It came with Pachmayr grips, but I still had my old set of target grips from the first Model 28 that I owned back in the late 70’s, so I threw those on.

Jtown,

A couple questions about your Highway Patrolman.

Is it Model Marked?

Have you posted about this gun earlier in this thread?

I am interested in the N.M.M. 4 screw Patrolmans.

Thanks,
Gunnison

My Three Sons

Here's my three 28's, two no dashes and one unfired 28-2. The 28's seem to become increasingly popular, well as least with me!:D

Sold my 28-2 in the early 80s at a gun show. It had a RR front sight, WO rear sight, TH, TT, TS, and action job. Always regretted I sold it. Well, today I finally replaced it. Functionally, it's fine. But not the prettiest 28 in the world. It's going to be a shooter. Dang glad I bought it. Still have target stocks and a presentation case for it.

Inherited a H.P 28-2 looking for info

Hi. New to the group. Just inherited a 28-2 sn N39,*** very low serial numner for N I assume based on what the chart shows. I would never get rid of it for anything, as sentimental value far outweighs any money. Wondering however why mine would have 2 different numbers. One below the stock in typical place and a different all together on the lower part of the arm opposite the place where the model and matching number for the stock are? Also looks like a seperate stamp "G11" with a newer looking stamp kit.

Welcome to the Forum, HP!!! We are glad to have your here. The serial number is the one stamped on the butt of the revolver. The other number is probably the assembly number, which was stamped on various parts of the gun during the manufacturing process.

There are experts here who will help you with this issue.

Best Regards, Les

I found someone's 28-2 box.

Not sure quite how to go about this, but here goes.

I ran across an auction for a Model 28-2 box. Thought about this thread, and also that the box should, if possible, be united once again with the gun that came in it. So I bought it.

I don't think it belongs in the for sale section. I'd only want it to go to whomever has the correct gun.

So if you have 28-2 S/N # S263760, leave me a message and a photo of the serial number on your 28-2.

Moderators, PLEASE let me know if this is in any way afoul of any Forum guidelines.

Here is another one 4 the list. 28-2 4inch blue, non original grips, standard trigger and hammer. Ser# N41860. Add this one to the other 5 or 6 ,have not been in the safe for awhile. Sixty nine to seventy, or so. Book tends lump 69-72 as time frame. 28s rule

That is a nice offer.

4 screw NMN

I recently acquired an 85%+ 4 screw non model number HP, serial number S1753** 6" barrel with later model target stocks but otherwise in unmodified condition. I don't know what stocks came on this HP originally though I would guess they were Magna's considering the target stocks that came on it appear to be 70's vintage. I am considering lettering this one. If I read the serial number range correctly this one was made sometime in 1956. I will take some photos and post soon. Thanks to everyone for sharing on this thread, the information has been invaluable. My Dad's 28-2 was the first center fire handgun I ever fired and since then HP's have held a special place in my heart.
Best regards to all,
Morgan
