Am I getting old...or is it the Fiocchi ammo??

Back when I was still working the PD I was at issued Fiocchi 9mm 115 grain hollowpoints. There were two shootings by officers with them & both were non fatal immediate one shot stops.

So you shot......

So you shot it out of a plastic .45 and it was awful. That I can understand.

But you then shot it out of a 'real steel' 1911 and it did the same thing???? I've noticed that Fiocchi ammo is a little on the hot side but that sounds grossly excessive Unless you, like many of us getting old.:D:confused:

In my opinion it's not stout enough. I'm only talking about 9mm here but, after shooting a bunch of 115 and 124 gr Fiocchi...I have a bunch of never impacted" bullet....25 yard range and bullets are 75% of the way to the plates...just laying I never felt anything that made we think "stop", they all seemed to have had the same felt recoil. These things were just over squib load status....with I thought, yikes...whenh seeing the bullets. Anyone else ever see thing? Maybe I got a bad lot?

Maybe I am getting weaker in my old age, or less tolerant, or just soft but I have a question regarding Fiocchi ammo.

It has been awhile since I busted out the .45's for a trip to the range, my M&P .40 has been getting most of my love lately. A week or so ago I picked up a nice used full-size M&P .45, so I figured it was time, and warm enough, to head out to the range today. Digging into the ammo bunker, the first batch of .45ACP I came across was Fiocchi 230gr FMJ. I loaded up some mags for the M&P, and while I was at it figured I would bring a 1911 along for comparison. Holy ****, either it has been too long since I shot any of my .45's, or that Fiocchi is some hot ammo!! The pistols were almost unbearable to shoot. Certainly difficult to hold for second shot placement with any consistency. Anyone else have any experience shooting the Fiocchi and care to comment how it compares to WWB or Federal or Remington or whatever???

Thanks.

Don't know the situation now, but when I worked at Fiocchi years ago, there was a difference in pressures in the same calibers. The ammo loaded at the American plant in Ozark, MO was loaded to be within SAAMI pressure specs. The other, hotter versions were loaded in the mother ship plant in Italy to CIP ( European ) pressure specs, which are noticeable hotter than the American SAAMI limits. The American ammo was generally in silver boxes, the Italian in blue boxes.

Are you saying your fired Fiocchi, and the bullets traveled
eighteen yards and fell to the ground?

fiochi ammo ....

is good to go , at least what i have fired in my guns .
the deal about recoil is noted . i still shoot my 45 acp's a lot with various loads . have a 10mm mod 20 glock for fun & engage a couple of 357 caliber revolvers fairly often ...with hot loads . am able to keep my loads in a reasonable pattern from 21 ft. to around 50 ft . depending on the gun , the load & distance . i am not a big guy , 5ft. 8 & 145 lbs.
however there must be something said about conditioning . i walk or bike 4 times a week and light lift twice a week . am 70 years old and have bad arthritis in my hands . do 200 hundred crunches a day and use a hand grip power squeezer twice a day .
i could be wrong but i believe my keeping active has really helped me in some areas of gun handling/shooting . my 02 on the recoil concerns

My experience with Fiocchi has been with 38 Super and .38 Special. Fiocchi 38 Super "standard velocity" was way hotter and faster than Remington's +P version - noticeably so. I had similar experiences with their non +P 38 Spl. where it was hotter than Remington's +P version of the same bullet weight and design.

I work for fiocchi. We make federal as well. And our plant is located in ozark Mo.

Hahahaha! That is great! Overlooking my ammo stash.. Federal and Fiocchi make up 50% of it. Both are my go to and use each as equal substitutes. Geco, PPU, PMC, CCI/Blazer Brass & Aluminum, Gold Dot, Golden Sabre.. all are very good American and European ammo. IMI is very nice Israeli ammo.

OP, Fiocchi is full powered ammo, loaded to the higher end of the spec for it's respective caliber and not a hair less. That said, I've shot 10's of thousands of it in 9mm, .40cal, .44Special, .44Magnum, and .45ACP over the last 20+ years. It's just darn good ammo that burns clean & accurate and which is why I like it so much. And the M&P45 is a soft shooting .45 as well as their M&P40.

I'm thinking you were just having an off day. It happens to all of us! I'm 41 years old now and when large low pressure storm fronts come sometimes stuff just hurts more. I'm betting the next time you get out there you and your pistols will be just fine/happy with your Fiocchi ammo. Good luck and keep shootin'!
