My first duty gun was a 4" model 66. I later got the itch for a 686 as I thought that's what I was supposed to want, so I traded it off. I've regretted the trade. Well yesterday, while throwing old stuff out, my wife found the receipt where in 1985 I traded it and 50 bucks in on a 4" 686 at Lucky's Liquor & Sporting Goods in St Charles Mo. It contains the guns SN. I'll just throw it out there in the outside chance someone runs across it as I would have some interest: 41K2144

I'm not holding my breath.

Ah, the early eighties in Law Enforcement. Everyone wanted a Model 686, especially here in South Florida. I went a little different route and bought a Model 581. Later carried a a Model 67 and a Model 66. They were lighter and better duty guns, anyway, to me. That Model 66 stoked with 145 grain Winchester Silvertips was a nice combination. Don't have the Model 67 or 66 anymore, though wish I did. Still have the Model 581.

My first duty gun, back in 1997, was a brand new 4" 19-7. I went out and ordered it the same day I was hired. Carried it for several years before switching to a 3" GP-100. I still have the 19-7, will never sell it. My first backup/off duty gun was a used 36ND, and I still have it too. If you include military time my first duty gun was a Colt M16A-2 (#6531473). I would've liked to have kept that one.

My first LEO duty gun after USMC was a S&W M 19, that I was required to purchase myself. I also carried a dehorned M37 as a backup and still do. This was in 1972 and still have both weapons. Later I moved to a 1911 LW Commander 45acp and 38 super. Never liked any other semi-autos, they just never fit my hand.

First duty gun? An M-16a2, BUG was a 1911. Didn't carry the M-60. It was on a co-axial mount.

Yeah, me too. Primary MOS was 11F4P (Infantry Operations & Intelligence sergeant, Airborne). Spring of 1971 I got shot up a little bit and apparently they couldn't think of anything better to do with an infantry sergeant they couldn't send to the field anymore, so they put me in charge of a MP detachment for the artillery fire base & helicopter refueling/rearming base at Dong Ha, not far from the DMZ in northern I Corps, Vietnam. Marines were pulling out and the Army was taking over.

Duty gun? The M1911A-1 (Remington-Rand WW2 production) pistol was always on my hip. M16A1 (General Motors Hydramatic Division) rifle was always with me. Kept a M60 machinegun (Rock-Ola) on a pintle mount on the jeep (M151, Ford Motor Company). M2 Browning .50's in the towers (along with M79 40mm grenade launchers). More M60's on the bunker positions. Claymore mines at the gate and around the perimeter. Bouncing Betty mines and FuGas canisters between the inner and outer wire. Mortars (4.2" and 60mm) for local defense. Final defensive fire was provided by the 105mm howitzers using canister shells in the direct fire mode (a really BIG shotgun!). Air support usually available (UH-1 Hueys and AH-64 Cobra gunships, 7.62 miniguns, 40mm automatic grenade launchers, 2.75" rockets).

Kind of like living in one of today's inner city neighborhoods!

"Lucky's Liquor & Sporting Goods"?

What could possibly go wrong? :D :D

Next time you are in Colorado try driving US285 southwest from the Denver suburb of Lakewood. In about 45 minutes you will come to Bailey, CO. As you enter town, on the south side of the highway is a strip shopping center with liquor store, smoke shop, and gun shop. Large sign on the roof "ALCOHOL TOBACCO & FIREARMS".

Chips and dip are available a little further down the road.

Good luck on your search. Also please add your post to this thread. Lots of members shared theirs unfortunately some of the photobucket pictures have been lost.
