Hammer Type Bullet Pullers

LET ME GUESS...

#300 Rounds to pull, a progressive press? :D I try to NOT get too far ahead of myself. While a puller is a must have, the goal is to not need it. Currently on my third kinetic hammer type (20$) in app 40 years, I can't recall the last time I used it. The plastic eventually will get brittle, & the way you use it & what you strike it on matter. The press type sounds good in theory but have never tried one.

The Quinetics bullet puller is a big improvement for ease of use and speed. With their collet there is no need to remove the cap. just a 1/4 twist for opening or closing. It allows for easy insertion and removal of the cartridge and case when the cap is just loosened.

Also a kids plastic tapered cup with a few holes drilled in the bottom and then snugly inserted over the powder's jug mouth simplifies the sorting of the powder and bullets.

And do not forget to break the factory crimp , by seating the bullet 1/8th inch deeper into the case , makes hammer pulling much easier.
I can break the crimp on military 30-06 ammo and on the third moderate whack on concrete the bullet will pull out. Three moderate whacks work much better than trying one big Magilla Gorilla slam.

I whack a piece of cedar limb about 10" across instead of metal or concrete, seems to work better for me , and I suspect it is a little easier on the plastic chamber . Never used a collet type puller that didn't leave marks so I don't use them .

A simple trick for hammer type pullers. Rather than fumbling with that spring collet that comes with it, just use the shell holder from your die set. It'll fit right in the hammer, works just fine and is much faster than messing with the collet. ;)

The problem with shellholders is the cap must be removed each and every time. Not so with the Quinetics. Just slide the cartridge in add 1/4 turn, hammer, 1/4 turn counterclockwise and drop the components out.
