I just picked up (today) a 915 from the LGS where I work. Great shape, no box unfortunately, but 7 mags. Just ordered a .260 Novak rear from Numrich, hoping this will match up with the front sight. Couldn't pass on the price. Anyone have any experience/knowledge to pass on regarding changing out the rear sight? Thanks!

The pre-Novak and Novak cut is the same but the rear of the slide will need to be machined for the Novak to work.

Here are the correct parts for this conversion -

The Novak rear sight part number is 107920000.
The set screw part number is 108010000.
The front sight part number is 109090000.

This guy did what you are seeking to do - http://smith-wessonforum.com/140103974-post3.html

I had a Novak rear sight installed by Novak's, Parkersburg, WV. You can find them on the web. As jsbethel noted, some machining was required. Novak's price was reasonable and their work excellent.

It is a shame S&W put the small rear sights on the 915, presumably in order to save a little money in the manufacturing process, but the decision was made a long time ago. The original sight works, but a Novak Lo-Mount sight is much easier to use.

They used the small sight on the 915 in order to avoid paying a royalty to Wayne Novak. ;) But I digress.

There is a nice 915 equipped with Novaks, for sale in the classifieds here. For a pretty good price too. Regards 18DAI
