I’ve been using 4.4 gr. of HP38 for copper washed 158 gr. 38 Spl.
Out of a 4” 686 it chronos around 780 fps, but has extreem spreads around 150fps. I mostly use that load in my K frames. It seems to be accurate in 4 of my Ks.

My “L frame load” of 3.9 gr. of Titegroup runs 800 FPS. An ES of only 63 FPS. Very accurate in my match 686s. Too hot burning for my pl Ks.

I have been wondering what success people are having with CFE Pistol. Less temp sensitive? Meter as good as above?

Thanks.

Can't answer all your questions, but I switched from HP-38 to CFE-Pistol for 45ACP to use an 8lb jug I bought when no Win231/HP3 was available. I also tested it in 9mm.

My latest batch of HP38 required 0.2gr more powder than the last batch of HP38 to maintain velocity in both calibers.

When switching 45ACP from there to CFE, it took nearly 20% more powder to maintain velocity. CFE metered as consistently well as HP38.

Hope that helps.

In my experience, CFE meters just as nice as W231/HP38, has a higher velocity potential but burns slower so you need a little more.

+1 with post #3;

Same as w231 but you do get a little more fps in 38 and 9mm with CFE pistol.

I find it better when you get away from the starting loads but it
does not show me any reason to load full loads of this powder.

With a 125gr JHP in a 6" 686 revolver w231 and CFE are in a dead heat per fps and accuracy.
