Found a 915 with 2 mags, docs and original plastic case at LGS
The pistol had holster wear but looks almost new internally and where it counts.
Like it was carried a lot but never used.
I got it for $250 OTD. and obviously thought it a good deal. But now as I look at 3rd gen pricing in general it seems softer than when I left 3 years ago. For example, 3913LS seem to be cheaper now than when I left..I bought one yesterday from forum for $525 with shipping. 3 years ago that was a great price.. Now I see that I did ok but could have done better either with more goodies or lower price.
So I don't think I got hurt with this but it's also not much of a bargain IMO. I'll enjoy shooting it as I have never owned the "often raved on 915". It's hard to believe an all metal, 15 round pistol is so inexpensive!

Good price...... I have two that are anib.... both cost me about the same as yours ....... 10 years or more ago.

My last one looked like yours and was $300 w/ 3 mags right after Sandyhook...

I would have grabbed another at that price..... great guns....great utility hicap 9mm's Mec-gar has 17 round flush fit and 20 rd extended magazines.

Except for folks like us third gen guns have to compete with new plastic fantastic's. I've been offered a couple of 6904 and 6906s.... both anib for an average price of $292 to get a quick sale.......... cus the knew the local market wouldn't support higher pricing.

Nice snag at a good price! Enjoy it! :D

I've just started becoming a bit more serious dabbling with the S&W semi autos and reading / hearing about the 915. Looks like I need to keep my eyes open for one.

Not sure this will make you feel better but you sure got a good deal compared with what I paid for mine. :(

Your right, I don't feel better knowing that someone didn't save more money. Although it's good to know I didn't get hammered on it either. I think it's really hard to not justify $250-$300 for any well functioning DS/SA, all metal, high capacity, semi auto. It doesn't matter what brand other than maybe a High Point.

Join the club Jep. I paid almost double what the OP paid for his. :( But you know that I am anal about the condition of the used guns I buy... and I hadn't found any others near me in even "used & abused" condition. :o Only other one I found suffered from advanced slide corrosion and that just wasn't gonna fly with me. :o

You got a very good deal. A metric ton of those guns have been re-imported over the last couple years, sold for between $250-$350 , none were LNIB and all had import marks. I watched them for several months on the auction site.

No question that prices have changed... stratified is probably a better word... from a few years ago. I'm finding that the scarcer ones in top condition have tended to move higher while the more common ones in low-to-average used condition have tended to drift lower. In between, it's a mix. That's painting with a very broad brush, but it is different... at least that's the case in my local market.

You got a great deal on a fine looking 915 and in the goodies box too.

I don't understand your negative feelings about current market prices. Models come into favor and lose favor as buyers chase the new flavor of the year.

Three years from now that model will be back on the buyers' list because prices have fallen and the bargain hunters are snapping them up again. The herd recognizes the action and jumps on the bandwagon.

Now, I'm guessing the seller is feeling really bad having to settle for a giveaway price. Enjoy your wonderful find!

Except for folks like us...
Had to chuckle a little at your post Bam. :) I was in a shop today and overheard an earful after I had to step outside for a moment to retrieve my glasses. We 3rd Gen aficionados truly are our own distinct cultural subset of the modern firearms enthusiast world. :D Listen sometime to a discussion between two or more modern plastic wonder gun-oriented folks examining and talking about our beloved 3rd Gens. It can be hilarious! :p

My favorite line from today (in regard to an empty 3913 and an empty 6906:" Damn, those old Smith & Wessons are heavy"! :D ;)

That would be a killer deal in the opposite corner of the state
That's the pricing I have been able to get there on older 3 gens over the years. They are a LEO Glock distributor so they don't have much use for old S&W boat anchors. They have a NIB 469 there w/o the box.. so it's NW/OB. Nicest 469 I have ever seen. Comes with 2 mags. It looks like it just came off the factory floor. (I wasn't buying S&Ws in 1984 so I never saw a new one.)
I believe they were asking in the $200s for that as well. I just have no need for it. How it's in that condition w/o a box is a bit of a mystery. If anyone is interested I can PM the phone number. They don't have a used gun website.

They go for almost twice that here in the gun stores, that is about the price I have seen in the internet trade. All in all, I would say that you got a good deal by any standard with the box and 2 mags.

Agreed. I have an almost perfect one I offered to a member here for $285 and I and he thought it was fair. With the box and mags, you got a good price.

Or a Ruger.
Darn! Did I actually post that!?!

Found one in O.K. shape at a LGS with one mag. They wanted $350 before tax and background.
I have a better condition pistol with two mags, on its way as we speak. I paid $330 shipped. After a $15 transfer fee I am at $345.
I don't feel like I overpaid.

You can drive yourself crazy comparing your fortune/misfortune with everyone else's.
It's yours now regardless of how much paper value you used to get it.
Take it out. Use it. Take care of it. Enjoy it.

I just got a 910 in 90% shape with one mag for 219 otd. So you did really well for that 915.

Yeah, I have a thing about condition, too.

From 2007 (when I started collecting S&W 3rd Gen Autos) to 2017, I have only seen two 915 pistols here in Southern California (So Cal) in 99% condition . . . and I bought both ($350 in 2008 and $500 in 2017). Pristine examples of blue/black alloy frame 3rd Gens are tough to find since they show every ding, scratch and rub.

The funny thing out here in So Cal is that 915 pistols in 90-95% on consignment in the gun stores go for darn near the same as the pristine examples . . . go figure.

The serial number is blacked out on the photo, not the pistol. ;)
