I recently added a CS40 two-tone to my toy box. While I was waiting for it's arrival I found a mag for a CS45 at a very good price at a lgs. Realizing that I would like to add a CS45 at some point I jumped on it. Later I saw a post on this forum that said you can use a CS45 mag loaded with 40 S&W in a CS40. So I dug it out of the drawer to check function with some Snap-Caps. Loaded it up and inserted it into the gun. Surprise, it was 1/4 to 3/8 inch longer than my CS40 mags??? I know the CS40 & CS45 share the same frame so it didn't make any sense. Pulled it and looked it over. That is when I realize it is a 7 round mag not a 6 round like the CS45 comes with. My guess is that I have a 4513 in my future now. It has 45 CAL just above the S&W logo and ES1 on the front edge. Pictures attached. Is this mag for a 4513? Thanks for your help.

I'm looking at a CS40 tomorrow. The pic on the website shows a magazine inserted, and I'm assuming it comes with at least that one. I've been looking at the availability and it's slim pickings. I saw the post about the CS45 mags too. So, when you tried yours, did it lock in and function?

My 4553TSW uses 6 round mags. I recall a manufacturer fabricates a polymer sleeve for your mag so that it is somewhat more form fitting for the handguns that use the 6 round mag...don't remember the manufactures name... Please, send your extra mags my way...;)

The 7 round 4513/4516 mag did lock into place & cycled snapcaps. I have not tried it at the range.

Thanks. I realize manually cycling is much different than the powerful recoil functioning of shooting. I picked up this CS40 today, one mag, shot some but just enough to show that it's been shot. $450. Stainless finish, a great addition next to my CS9 I've had for a long time.

Now for the magazine hunt.

Next question: Does anyone know if the 7 round mags from a S&W 4040 would fit the CS40? I see where CDNN Sports has them for about $29.

4040 mags will not fit the CS40.

The CS40 magwell was designed to fit the S&W 3rd gen 45 magazines. (The CS40 frame is the same as the CS45 frame.)

So other than the 45 mags, the only mag that will fit the CS40 is the CS40 mag.
