Carrying a Swiss army knife for EDC

for more than 30 years i have carried the executive model along with my benchmade. The Victorinox is great tooth pick and tweezers and the small scissors.

I have in the past but don’t currently. For my daily needs I’ve found that a Leatherman 300 super tool is a better fit for me. That’s not to say I’ll never carry a SAK again, just that I don’t carry one now.

I have had a Swiss Army knife for 30+ years, "Camping" model. But it stays home except for outings. EDC blade is a Kershaw auto.

Here's what is in my pocket right now!! Well, plus my 340 PD, but you didn't ask about it. So yes, I carry a Swiss Army knife, attached to my thumb drive, plus a couple of others. Benchmade Mini-Reflex, that I've carried for around 25 years, on and off, and an Uncle Henry, one of the old ones made in the USA.

I don't claim to be intimately familiar with the various models or nomenclature, but I own two Swiss army knives and have made good use of them both for over 20 years. One lives in my fishing tackle box, the other rides in the console of my truck along with my Leatherman multi-tool. Both are valued tools.

Carried a SAK of one model or another for 40+years. These days, it's an Evo 11.

..yep....have carried the same Handyman since 1995. That was the year that I gave my aunt (who is only 8 years older than me so more like a big sister I never had) the Grand Prix I had been carrying for about ten years before that.

(funny but my Handyman has a phillips screw driver, not a corckscrew)

Attached to the key ring is a City Dweller lanyard...makes it very easy to access the knife...knife fits right next to the wallet and is just about as important...

My Great Uncle was from Switzerland...he started giving me SAKs from the time I was about 8 years old...never been without one since...

EDC a classic, the scissors, and tweezers are real handy to have. For dress often a tinker or super tinker. EDC also includes a full size knife and a Leatherman Charge.
I own several various Victorinox models, no Wenger.
Good knives, reasonable price.

Tinker every day. Dumped the toothpick and replaced it with a Firefly firestarter.

In addition to the little SAK on my keychain, I have managed to collect seven different other models over the years. Except for one Wagner, the rest are Victorianox, and I have one in my pocket every day. I carry the Spartan most of the time, but the Tinker comes in handy when I'm working around our place.

I'd never owned one until a few months ago. My 32 y. o. daughter told me one day, "dad, I want a Swiss Army Knife.". Always glad to indulge a request like that, I told her I'd get her one. Looked on our friendly local Amazon site and decided I'd order myself one as well, just for kicks. Ordered her a traditional red one and a black one for myself, both the Spartan model. Well, I'm sold. Been carrying it every day since. I always have a bigger knife in my edc bag, more yet in the truck, but that is one handy little tool.

I prefer a Leatherman tool over a SAK mainly because of the pliers but also find it better in actual use. While I rarely carry one around the house, I always have one handy when traveling.

I have been carrying a SAK for 35+ years. My current carry is a Wenger but I don't know the model. I can't imagine not having a SAK in my pocket unless I am flying or going some place that scans you for such. I feel partially dressed when that happens. I usually pair the SAK up with a Spyderco of some sort or a Case trapper. That, two flash lights, two speed strips and my S&W 649 and I am ready. My cargo shorts weigh a ton. I don't care.

I carried the Soldier model (now called the Pioneer) or a Super Tinker for years. I liked the Soldier/Pioneer for the Alox scales and much better, more versatile awl, but the Super Tinker for the extra tools.

Now damaged, clumsy hands make it difficult for me to open the blades, so I always carry a one-hand-opening knife, either a Spyderco Endura or an assisted-opener. Right now there is a Kershaw OSO Sweet in the pocket of my jeans, and the Endura is next to me on the desk.

I still think the Victorinox model that for years was actually issued to Swiss Army troops is about as good as a multi-purpose pocketknife gets. The Boy Scouts should adopt it.

Yep, I carry a Swiss Army Knife every day. Can't begin to guess what model it is. They have a bunch. I guess I'd have to look at a catalog to figure out which one it is. It does everything I need for daily use. If I need anything more, I add a Gerber folder to my belt.

Someone here just confused the former Soldier with the Farmer. The Farmer adds a saw. I think the former Soldier is now maybe the Pioneer. Have to check.

I have about 20 SAK's and most often carry a red Spartan. I have two. Also have a black one.
I may sub an Executive as I always also have a larger knife.

I have models from the tiny Classic to a Hunter. The saws on the Camper, Hunter, etc. are quite effective for their size.

This week, I'm carrying a blue handled Wenger with an ad name (Deloitte) on it, just for variety. Most of mine are by Victorinox. My Wenger is almost identical to Vic.'s Sportsman model.

I've used every tool on my pair of SwissChamps, and have the leather SOS kit black leather pouches for them. One stays in my briefcase.

I talked a nurse I know Online into buying a little Classic. It's legal even where she lives, in Chicago. It's pink. Women like things they find pretty...In December, she went to London for a week. Never declared the knife and they did check her handbag, sort of casually. Never found the knife, either in the US or in the UK. It's small and pink. May not have registered as a knife. Attractive women also tend to distract male TSA agents...

A few years ago, I needed to decide which SAK I was going to have a fictional (TV) character carry in the pocket of her brief black shorts. (Finn, from the 3rd Season of, The Lost World.) I wrote fan fiction then.
I wanted her to have the most complete knife carryable in those little shorts, and she needed a saw to cut open the ropes holding the door of a cage shut, to free her friend Veronica from the bad guys. Finn then used the small pen blade to free Veronica's wrists.

I chose the Camper model, in the usual red handle most likely to be familiar to my readers. Finn carried that knife in all of my 32 stories in which she appeared although she acquired a small Bowie type knife, too... and a S&W M&P .38 to replace the small crossbow she had on TV. I think I chose that knife well, and it was a sort that she might have had in New Amazonia, where the other explorers found her in the episode where the character was introduced.

But the Camper works just as well in real life as in fiction, and I treasure mine. It's the thickest knife I ever carry in a trousers pocket.

Yes, the Camper makes for an outstanding EDC knife. This 1980s vintage model was given new life recently by replacing the worn-out original red scales with the yellow versions. It is part of my EDC rotation and I carry it whenever the situation demands...
