Carrying a Swiss army knife for EDC

This is my favorite EDC Swiss Army. Executive 3". I own a couple.

If I have pants on I always have a Swiss Army knife and a mini LED type flashlight with me, except when I am on a commercial airline flight.

I almost always have a Case trapper in one pocket and an Explorer in the other. I have used that magnifying glass and tweezers a bunch of times to extract splinters from my hands. Those scissors are handy for trimming that mustache hair that worries the piss out of you.

When I am in the woods I usually have a Trakker or Forester in my pocket. Great blades and that saw blade has come in handy on a regular basis. During hunting season my go to knife any more is the Hunter XT. All of the larger SAK's I order with the one hand opening blade.

One of the best things about the SAK for me is the small eye glass screwdriver that fits in the corkscrew. I ordered in a six pack of those and have fitted them to all of my knives with the cork screw.

Until getting my first automatic last year, I carried these two every day (red for work, aluminum after work) since 1965. Red scaled is the Automotive and Aluminum the Voyageur.

As the photo suggests, I also carry the little Channellocks, which get used at least as much as the knives.

Thank you!

You triggered a pleasant memory that was lost in the chemo fog!
For years I worked with some very specialized security equipment made in Italy. It used torx, metric, and odd fractional metric to boot, bolts to minimize the possibility of futzing with it.
They had a custom tool made and patented, so it couldn't be made (legally) by others. It was produced in very limited quantities, and then stopped.

I did the software-hardware bridge training, and had to have the tool for each tech. On one trip to the US, they advised me we were out of the tool, no more to have. I spent an afternoon in Omaha at an old school hardware store (probably gone now). The old man (30 years ago) helped me figure out how to manage with two hands - one with an odd Swiss Army knife, the other with the mini channel locks. I bought all he could find, and had him shipping them to me for years.

No one expected we would sell so much equipment in so many corners of the Earth.

I still have two of the mini channel locks, in kits with the appropriate Swiss Army knife.

I carry a SAK, well two of them actually. I couldn't tell you the model of either one of them. The "big" is about like the Boy Scout knives of my youth. Two blades, scissors, etc.. The other one is a keychain model, on my keychain oddly enough. It probably gets used, two or three times the use of the big one.

For years I carried a simple one two blades and a saw, I seldom if ever used the saw.
When thumb assisted one hand opening pocket knives became available I found them more convenient so have been using a Buck 284 for several years now.
I still own about a dozen Swiss Army Knives kept in various places for their tools. My Dad brought me my first one from an overseas trip when I was about 10. they really are great knives.

I had to look it up - a Wenger Commander. Replaced the one lost at a security checkpoint in 2008, which replaced the 45 year old one (still have, but lost the keychain loop). :)

I keep a Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD and a small flashlight on a snap ring I can move from key set to key set. However I also have another snap ring with a different flashlight and a Leatherman Squirt that is typically on the key set I use most. I'm more inclined to use the "tools" they come with than the blade and find the squirt more useful. If I need to cut something, I almost always have one of my other folding knives that I rotate in a different pocket. They are much more competent cutting tools than either the Squirt, or the Classic. Even so, the SAK still finds a good bit of time in my pocket.

When a kid I carried a 3 blade stockman. As a teen got a little smarter and
went to a Muskrat. Then I got a lot smarter and went to single blades. Now I carry a Case mini Blackthorn. Since I carry a tool pouch with a utility knife I don't need bulky extra stuff in my pockets. I do have a p38 can opener on my keys.

I used to carry one. Love them. I have one my friend got me at the factory in Switzerland. He has passed and that stays in the safe. However for the last 20 years I carry a switchblade. The quick one hand application is hard to beat.

I carry one every day, I think its the recruit. I get a lot less funny looks then if I used my Emerson to cut up an apple or break down a box.

I have a tendency to lose one every few years and pick them up pretty cheap on eBay...

I've been carrying a Spartan since Christmastime, and I find I use it a lot. I also still carry my Leatherman Squirt PS4 on my keychain, and find it continues to get used a lot.

That's a pocketful but nice to see a flashlight in there. I keep my small classic SAK and a Maratac AAA in copper along with a spare battery in my watch pocket. A Swiss Tinker, key fob, money clip, and space pen in one pocket and my cellphone in the other along with one of various locking folders. Comb? Lost the need for that years ago.
I am amazed at how many times per day I grab that little flashlight. The gun choice changes with clothing and destination.

Someone here just confused the former Soldier with the Farmer. The Farmer adds a saw. I think the former Soldier is now maybe the Pioneer. Have to check.

You're right, I did confuse the two. Recently I gave my gardener sister a Farmer--guess that's what i was thinking of.

That little saw works very well, she says.

I'll edit, thanks.

What do I have?

Not sure which model I have, a tinker maybe? I’ve had it for over 20 years now. While I can’t classify it as an EDC, I still carry it on frequent occasions. How do you tell the difference between Vics and Wengers?
