.22 LR Ammo

For bulk ammo I use Federal AutoMatch. Priced reasonably, also reasonably accurate and my semi-auto pistols like it and function well. For more precise shooting I prefer SK Rifle Match. Also CMP bulk box Eley shooting well.

Like AJ says, Federal AutoMatch is economical and works great in my Victory. For a plinker like me it does what I want it to. No problems with function at any time I've shot it.

I like mini mags best but for bulk ammo another vote for Aguila super extra. Very reliable and plenty accurate for the plinking I do. Occasionally Academy sports will have it for $28.99 a brick. I'll buy 2 or 3 when it's on sale.

CCI Minimag is my first choice, but has seen occasional availability issues. Sometimes it doesn't suit the particular gun.

I made the mistake of learning that most of the .22s I have need a certain brand to run best hit closest to POA. I usually test five or six different flavors for each gun. Example photos.

Is that one labeled 22LR Rifle Geco. I have a couple of cases of that stuff. A little on the greasy side but it seems to shoot very well in evey gun I have. Supplies on it seem to have dried up.

I still cannot figure out the difference between 36, 38 and 40 gram ammo. I have used this ammo in my Mod 41 and there has been little difference in accuracy on targets at 25 yds. I am baffled.

I prefer CCI and Federal .

I recently bought a bulk 222 pack of Winchester Super - X 22 LR power-point , limited edition ... they are packed in a retro looking old school package - yellow , red and black ...
The loaded ammo looks terrible , bent bullets / cases ... some cases don't want to chamber ... some chamber ...dented cases ...
the quality Look's Poor ,,, I have a Ruger Wrangler to shoot them in ... I'm not putting them in my S&W semi-auto's .
Winchester used to make good ammo ... something Happened !

CCI or Federal ... that's the Ticket !

CCI-Fed-Rem-Fiocci the same, all companies are the czech group. Different factories, same recipe.

Federal auto match, remington target and golden bullt, CCI multiple types and winchester multiple types. Plus an assortment of european match ammo eley etc. I test each new 22 with ammo from my collection and then note which one or two has shot the best and lay in a stock for that specific gun. CCI ammo has been the most consistant winner across multiple guns rifle and pistol. Had a sig that hated federal auto match and another that loved it. Best is to test you would be surprised. Had a Kimber 22 superamerica that would put stingers in 1/4" groups at 50 yards all day long. Go figure. All depends if your looking for accuracy or just cheap blaster ammo for plinking.

I've for had really good performance with Federal Auto Match both in revolvers and semi-autos. I've seen accuracy on par with CCI Standard Velocity. I recently picked up two of the 325 round boxes at Wally Mart, $20 a box. Good luck with Aguila also.

I have found CCI SV to be very accurate in my Kimber , Ruger and Sako rifles.

A friend gave me a carton of Winchester Super-X Winchester 22LR. They are the only cartridges that I have found that will not function in my Taurus TX22. They constantly jammed when they fed. I have seen other such complaints about the Super-X cartridges. So, they are restricted to my revolvers. I did not try them in my Ruger 10/22 rifle.

Mainly mini mags and Federal HV. I purchased several thousand of these back in the day and seemed to have made my firearms like them 🤪

I have tried all the big brand names and all have performed well. I did have some failures in bulk Remington but I kind of expect that in a bulk box. Federal, CCI, folocia (sp), Winchester have all been good to me but some of my 22 do not like bare lead so it is always copper coated to avoid feed issues.

CCI SV is a good all around choice. But I test a bunch of ammo with all of my rimfires. My 617 shoots CCI SV very and my CZ 457 Varmint likes SK Standard. My Nelson Custom 1911 conversion shoots extremely well with CCI but some of my other semi autos prefer higher velocity stuff. I have had the same guns not shoot the same ammo equally as well. To me, testing ammo is part of the fun.

I have had good luck with CCI Standard Velocity in my old High Standards or the Aguila 1025fps or the 1130fps as well
All shoot pretty good
Norma Tac 22 is also very good
For HV rounds Aguila super extra or Mini mags
I do get a rare FTF on occasion from all these....

Aguila had very good price/quality but for some reason they do not sell it anymore here in Finland. Norma Tac does not have enough power for for my semi autos and is hard to reject from a revolvers. For me CCI Blazer is a basic training ammo for semi autos and Stinger then when failure is not an option. SV for revolvers.
