M&P 15-22 Safety alert from S&W

Hello, My gauge has been here for a while and I finally got around to checking my bolt with the gauge. It was absolutely flush with the surface of the bolt surrounding the cutout for the cartridge (gauge). What is the opinion of this group. Is this OK or should I send in the bolt? I have had the rifle for about a year and still haven't had time to fire it. The serial number is DEJ9___.

Flush or below is good to go.

Have fun!!

I ordered mine on 3/18 and have still not received it. Sent a message to S&W about it and got no reply. I went ahead and borrowed a micrometer from a friend and checked mine ( it was good). Pretty poor service for a "safety recall".

A .035-.036" feeler gauge can be used in place of the S&W gauge. It's hard to mike the plastic piece but I averaged .0355".

Still no sign of the go/no go gauges here in the UK. It's fast becoming a joke.
I ordered mine on the 13th of March, that's 6 weeks now. 6 weeks without the use of the rifle is beyond a joke.
I know people have put the measurement up, but I don't think my club will accept anything other than the official guage to check. That way all parties are covered.

Have you sent a follow-up email to S&W?

Aside from that all you can do is ask your club about the validity of a micrometer check. Enough evidence on this thread to know what the measurement should be. Maybe someone else in your club has ordered and received a gauge that can be shared?

I messaged them and the reply was 'we don't have a way to track the order, we know we are running behind with the orders please allow another 2-3 weeks'. That was just over 2 weeks ago and I have emailed them again today, but thus far have not received a reply.

Same here ordered same date as you UK 15-22 and nothing pretty poor in my opinion lots of UK owners of these rifles so we expect to be just as much a priority as any buyer of these rifles no matter which country you live in.

I've had a email, mine is in the post and should be with me within 2 days. Anyone in the UK still waiting, Sportsman Gun Centre are dealing with this in the UK. I was dealing with Smith and Wesson's European headquarters via email but the gauge is coming from Sportsman. Drop Sportsman an email or give them a ring. My last email to Smith got the issue sorted. They thought Sportsman had already sent them out, but I think Sportsman have been getting people to send the rifle back so they can charge Smith for checking them. I know someone who has already sent his to Sportsman but I held on to mine for the gauge to get here.

I have got around the gauge problem by not telling my rifle it is potentially faulty, this is working because it still shoots fine.

Back Ordered

I purchased my rifle 3/26/2019. I called S&W the same day. They placed an order. I still do not have my gauge (a month later). I called them back and I was told they are on back order! Not happy about this! Has anyone received their gauge recently?

I've just got off the phone to Sportsman Guns after speaking to a very pleasant sounding Lady who advises me that I've got to send my rifle in to them. They will not issue a gauge.

Apparently (according to her), S&W have only sent them one single gauge (really?) and said Lady has been told by her Manager that rifles have to be sent to them so they can perform the check. This is clearly at odds with your information that would suggest they have more than one.

Having read a large number of negative reviews for this Company, this would back up your theory of them taking advantage of the situation by charging S&W a fee for checking each one (I sincerely hope I'm wrong).

Having checked our rifles with a CMM & DTI, and obtained some very accurate measurements, I think I'll give it a miss.

Do you want the email address of who I was dealing with in the European headquarters?

That would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Just for info, Dauntsey Guns are another Company asking for rifles to be returned. Although they've asked to arrange a convenient time for us to bring the rifles in, when I contacted them and advised them that our rifles had been checked by other means, they replied that they would advise Sportsman!

Why are UK companies over-complicating things? We're not all possessed of a single figure IQ. Just send us the damned gauges and be done with it

You're not a million miles from Bisley in Surrey and I'll be down there 17/18 of May. If I get a gauge, do you want to borrow it, take it or whatever?
