I figured I’d show off my new 19-8 that I got a few weeks ago. I don’t know why, but I have a thing for the late 90s early 2000 models. I know they have the MIM parts, but they seem a little more scarce compared to most prelock runs. This one was put out in Jan 1999 and has only a few handling marks. I swapped out the Uncle Mikes grips for a set of Ahrends. This one also is .357 and not .38 like I’ve seen a few others post about their 19-8s.

I thought all model 19s were 357 magnum capable of shooting 38 special and the 38 special only versions were the model 15?

As I remember Smith and Wesson produced some 38 special caliber model 19's for overseas shipments. These were few and far between. If I'm correct you are 99% correct.

I had a 19-8 that was marked as "38 S&W Special" (or some such thing), but was in fact, chambered for 357 Magnum. Apparently there were two batches of those guns, one small run of actual 38 Specials, and a larger, but at least to me unknown number marked with the 38 Special logo, but were in fact chambered for 357.

Since it was chambered for 357 I let it go on down the road to finance another "bright shiny thing" I'd seen. It was a really nice gun however.
