Good N frame Unique 250gr 45 Colt load

Stay under the 14K psi limit for older revolvers.

Modern revolvers, which the article specifies, are good for more. They say 20K psi, which I think is conservative for a modern M25/625 in 45 Colt. No reason it should be lower than that of a M25/625 in 45ACP.

.
No one would chance loading modern ammo In a revolver made before 1900. That's the problem manufacturers have when making and selling 45 Colt ammunition. They can't count on everyone understanding the problem.
If you remember 32-20 has ammo loads for rifles and then some for revolvers.

Unique is the only powder I use in the .45 Colt. I use home cast bullets from 200 grains to 255.

Contrary to internet legend, Unique measures very consistently in my RCBS powder measure.

The other beef I used to hear about Unque was that it "burns dirty", but I don't hear that much any more. Supposedly the formula was changed, but I don't believe that.

Groo here
As to the M-25,, I thing its BB that uses M-25's to test 45 super loads...
Though the chamber is a little different that should tell you something.

The all important common weak point both the M25 45ACP & 45 Colt have, the minimal metal thickness at the cylinder stop notch, are the same in my examples of them, ~.028" thick.

No reason to think they can't both shoot the same power loads.

I use Unique. 9.0 grains for my S&W 625 Mountain Gun. For my Ruger Bisley I step up to 10.0 grains bc it is a tad more accurate. Generally I just use the 9 grain load in both.

Gunwriter Brian Pearce seems to like Power Pistol. I haven't tried any yet. He also likes a 270 grain bullet out of a RCBS mold. Intend to try both just haven't gotten around to it yet. Pearce did an article for Handloading magazine on 45 Colt you might want to track down and read. Ditto on Linebaughs articles on 45 Colt. You can seriously improve on standard pressure 45 Colt safely in modern revolvers. Personally I don't magnumize 45 Colt because I have no need to do so. In fact i even download my 44 Mag loads to about 1000 fps using cast bullets. Where I live the biggest toughest thing I might shoot is a feral hog. The top end of standard pressure 45 Colt loads will do nicely for them. Also my Father In Law has a Taurus Judge. If I stay with standard pressure stuff I don't have to do another load to keep him in cartridges. Personally not my choice of firearms but he is retired on a small ranch and the ability to use 410 shotgun shells works for him. He is more likely to shoot a snake than anything else.
