Need info on a Model 17

Ummm, I wouldn't agree that the BEH-prefix on a Model 17 dates to 2000. I would guess 1991 or 1992. I would guess that is a dash-6. Does it havev the full underlug barrel or the standard ribbed target barrel?

Do you have the original box?

Sorry about that. Yes it is a 17-6 and it did come with a box. I bought it from a widowed lady that told me it has never been fired and I believe her! Not a speck of rust or ding marks.

Boy, as much as I love my standard 6" K22, those long skinny ones look like a hoot to shoot!

Okay, if you have the box and the end label from it, the born-on date is shown in the Spec Ordr box. Should be a four digit number. First number tells us the year, next three numbers tells us which day on the calendar.

Go look & report back!

It shows 9304.

The dash-6 was a transitional time for the Model 17. Early ones had the familiar ribbed target barrel as your revolver shows. I have a 6-inch with the same style of barrel and mine is a BBJ-prefix. Later guns in the dash-6 series had the full underlug barrel. If I had to guess, it's split down the middle in volume.

I'd say that a 17-6 with the 8-3/8" barrel is a scarce variant, beautiful gun. I'll also bet that you can find a date stamped inside one or both of the beautiful wood stocks.
