Gerber Fighting Knife

I guess if we have a war in my yard, i'll be ready. that's about as far as I can walk now. here's some of mine that I can lay my hands on right now. I know I have more somewhere. a WWII bring-back Kukri, Ontario Knife Co RAT-3, a Wild Bill & Sons(Bill Caldwell-w. Monroe, LA) of my design and the only one he made with dark green linen micarta handle, another Wild Bill with aged Ivory micarta handle, Camillius US Navy Mk 2(found with metal detector and cleaned up best I could) and a Kelgin Tanto. lee

That is a good looking fixed blade.

My 15 minutes of Knife World Fame came in 2005 when the Command Staff of the Florida Highway Patrol asked me to come up with an Official Knife for the Patrol. They knew I was a knife guy after all I had showed them enough knives over the years

I worked with Beretta on this project since they were the provider of the Patrol's sidearm at that time as well as the previous issue handguns. The other reason is that Beretta also manufactured knives.

The knife I designed is of the liner lock style and I had the Florida Highway Patrol Patch laser etched on one scale and a removable pocket clip mounted on the other

The forward section of the grip is indented so the index finger can get a good hold on the knife in case of a fight

The knife blade is of the Tanto shape but half serrated to aid in rapidly cutting seat belts

Black was chosen as the finish of the knife and blade for no reason other than it looked cool :) OK, truth is we used black so that the FHP patch would look better on the knife

I had Teflon washers placed between the blade and the bolsters. The pivot point of the knife does not need oil. One of these knives did two tours in Afghanistan never being oiled.

The blade is 3 7/8" long and the knife has an overall open length of 8 3/4" this was done to conform to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR). Specifically 14 CFR 108.11. I wanted to make sure these could be legally carried on US Commercial Aircraft

These knives could only be ordered from Beretta by the Florida Highway Patrol Academy or the Florida Highway Patrol store.

As a result of this collaboration, Beretta created the Law Enforcement Knife program with the Florida Highway Patrol knife as the cover photo

In 2006 the first knives were offered for sale to Troopers in the Florida Highway Patrol Store.

Beretta has since discontinued this program and these knives have not been available to the Patrol for many years

However 14 years latter, I am still carrying mine.

Nepalese Government issue KUKRI.

My dad picked up a batch of these when he was flying in and out of Kathmandu, Nepal from New Delhi, India, where we were living at the time (1970-1972). My dad flew in and out of Kathmandu on average, every six weeks or so, a trip that could be quite hazardous.

Did you draw blood before re-sheathing it?

I never realized I had so many "fighting" knives until this post was started.

After thinking about it, I figured that I've got a couple that were actually designed as fighting knives. The first is a Randall Model 1-8.

Next would be the ubiquitous Kabar.

And finally, a SOG Agency.

However, if it boiled down to knives that could be effectively used for fighting, I'd probably include these, too. :)

Since any knife can be used as a weapon I'll presume we mean purpose built and, in that case:

This one was purpose built, to my specifications, as a western-style knife decoratively worn on my cowboy action shooting gunbelt - but since it's Old West it is a fighting knife:

Not sure if this qualifies or not - it's supposedly a skinning knife but I can see it has other uses:

I consider this folder a fighter:

I bleive I lost this one in last year's fire but I'll share the picture, anyway:

And a Bowie is always a fighting knife:

I love that one. I can see it was from Brownsville. Can't make out the name.

It looks serious enough for anything you might feel like doing with it.

I have a mad dog knife that was designed by a nasa scientist for Navy specwar peeps. I never did any fighting with it but it is really cool.
I also have this custom knife made sometime in the 60s in Seattle for a great man and dear friend, a long retired frogman.
It is a wonderful knife that shed blood in vietnam. Dont know much about it because the fellow that gave it to me has passed on.

I bought this at a knife show over 20 years ago, a Cold Steel Recon Tanto. It was a factory second.

Don't have any intentions of fighting with it, but I think it's a cool knife. Haven't tried hammering it through the side of a 55-gallon drum, but supposedly it can be done without damaging the tip.

I couldn't tell you what kind of blade steel it used, as I believe it's changed a time or two over the course of the product line.

I've got 2 of those still in the box. Mine are the Carbon V version made in the USA by Camillus.
