Dick's destroys $5M worth of rifles.

Nice theory. Corporations are run by and for the officers and Board. Any scraps, sometimes quite nice for common folk, left to the shareholders are simply a by-product. The rewards and power never leave the top.

Rick, so could Dick’s have used it, the destruction, as a useful write off, based on however their reporting year is/ was?

I’m guessing this side of the looney bin, nobody flushes $5M down the toilet... Hard to believe there’d be enough positive PR alone among anti-gun customers to make up for the loss...

When Dick's took over Galyan's, they dumped the handgun inventory at rock bottom prices. It's the only reason I own a 686. :) Guess they found out and decided to deny me a bargain. I'm taking this personally.;)

I imagine Dick's will go down the same road as the Gander did. Poor management will do them in.
Not long after a Dick's opened I bought a rifle cabinet for half of what some other stores were selling the exact same cabinet for. I was surprised how big and well stocked the store was. They had an unreal amount of employees working that day. I haven't been back since then to see how the store is doing now.

Is Dick's Sporting Goods still pretending to be relevant in the world of shooting sports?

I can't believe this latest fiasco changed anybody's mind about shopping at Dick's one way or another. This is just a cheap publicity stunt that they were able to turn into a national headline. Free advertising for DSG.

They could fade into obscurity and it won't make so much as a ripple in my life.

You would think they would donate them to law enforcement but they may also be anti-law enforcement.
^^^^^this^^^^^

I agree with Farmer. If they wanted to make a political statement, they could have donated them to law enforcement agencies around the US - a win/win. Just thinking out loud, I am not a stakeholder. I’ll stop there so I don’t accrue another infraction.

Let us assume the $5Million was the Wholesale cost of the weapons. That is an expense. That is always a wright off. More likely the cost of the weapons was $3-4 Million. There are other expenses that are just part of doing business: Transportation, storage (Wearhouse space & Retail space) and paperwork. In one form or another they are all written off, but you cannot write them off twice!

Those gun were transferred to Dick's FFL(s) and have to be accounted for in their gun log. When they get rid of that FFL (go out of business, get bought out, or reorganize under a new name) That log goes "Home" to the ATF (and other letters) So the is a record of every firearm made from 1968ish. Then if a gun used in a crime is recovered the ATF has a record of who bought it. As we all know on AR's, the lower is all they record, I'm sure somewhere along the line a few uppers were "lost", and possibly lower parts may have been stripped.

What happened to all the evil accessories?

Ivan

Old news, but speaks volume for their derangement syndrome. They could have donated them to law enforcement agencies across the nation, but they'd rather alienate over 50% of their customer base and achieve nothing. I never go into Dicks.

They were DSG property, so it doesn't bother me that the head idiot in charge blew $5 million of his shareholders money making a political statement. I had already made my mind up not to go into their store in Lafayette again even before they did their little escapades with the black guns because the one time I went there I saw the high prices and you couldn't get any help from the jerks they had as employees. And these shenanigans just reinforce my stance of not ever going back to another DSG or Field and Stream.

I wonder if they realize that the law of supply and demand suggests that since they "bought" $5m worth of products, that shows "demand" for them. Don't worry about the destruction, the gun makers will make more.

That's OK, they will just sell Chinese and other foreign county manufactured clothing. Yes sir, sell that foreign stuff.

So he said he’s done with assault rifles because a kid used a shotgun from his store?

This guy is a mess. It’s shocking he can function as a CEO with this level of illogic and lack of simple reasoning skills. He makes no sense.

Because he's lying. Why do you guys think this is as simple as a "political statement"?

The truth is that they're 'virtue-signalling' anti-gun political demographics:

"Hey, don't come after us for failing to pay a living wage, cutting employees back to part time, or making millions a year selling sweatshop-produced clothing. We're anti-gun, we're on your side!"

Protip: assume your enemies are not utter morons.

And for his next trick, the CEO will emasculate himself.

Am I going to get in trouble for this?
