New Ford Raptor RANT

Sadly, American companies just don't build vehicles like they used to.

Yes and you can thank all of the Gov't. regulations, standards, laws, etc. which auto manufacturers must obey to be able to meet. All of the requirements placed upon them have totally changed the type of vehicle they can make. With the way the Gov't. rules are going, soon the horse will become the mode of transportation. Anyone interested in opening a buggy whip factory with me?

Well as it is your wives truck Ill bet it will never get to use its Raptor off road capabilities.
To the mall
To the grocery store
To the hair stylist

Never to the dirt

Like 99% of the Raptors out there

Bought for the look at me factor not for its true purpose.

Man I miss my 03 Lightning.
SVT should have continued building a sport truck that was fun useful and enjoyable.

Enjoy your wives fluffy new Raptor.

Dont let it get to dirty.

So in the not-too-distant future when everything's electric, are they going to make an add-on fake exhaust sound generator? Make it like Spotify where you can pick any of 1000 different exhaust tones?

My plan is to buy one of the last gas V8's and put it in storage. Of course gas will be $35 a gallon and 90% of the gas stations will close.

Wife's 2010 Raptor hit 99,950 miles last week. So time for it to go away. That is her reasoning.
So this past weekend she heads to the local Ford dealer and buys a 2019 Raptor.
Beautiful truck, Tuxedo black, big tires etc.
I finally got to drive it this evening.
I was impressed with the ride, comfort and the performance of the twin turbo'd V6. Puts out 450 HP and it moves when you plant the accelerator. Really moves.
Then I noticed that the sound emitting from the exhaust was flat out embarrassing. Sounded like some V6 sedan with a high flow muffler.
Good lord was I disappointed. I say that with all sincerity. Took all the joy out of driving it for me.
This is an AMERICAN TRUCK!!!!! Known for it's performance, power and off road capability and it sounds like the neighbor kid's souped up Toyota Tacoma. No throaty rumble idling at a stop, no beastly roar when you stomp the gas goin down the road.
I have been a die hard Ford man all of my adult life. Never drove them because they were fast, just have had very good luck with them. But the Raptor is a muscle truck and it sounds like some Metrosexual hipster trying to have a polite argument with his girlfriend. PATHETIC

You want the sound of a powerful American V8, buy one! That or modify the vechicle you now have to sound good, (big bucks)

You cannot have your cake and eat it too!

If I had known you were looking I could have sold you my old Batmobile Mercury with 242,000 miles on it.

At least my V8 Silverado doesn't die at every traffic light. 2018 was the last year Silverado for that. Now you push the button or you get used to it. My wife's Escape does it, I hate it. One of the reasons this Ford guy bought a bow tie truck. To it's credit this thing gets good gas mileage, 19 in the city, 24 on the highway, better than the 2010 V6 Ford I traded in for it and you don't know when it transitions into V4 other than the sound and the V4 notice on the speedometer/computer.

99,950? That's hardly broken in!
You should have bought her old Raptor when she bought the new one.

Does she share your disgust with the way the new one sounds? If she is happy with it … it is her truck.

I drive a Taco with a little 4 banger. :o

I love the truck but I never realized how it reflects poorly on my masculinity! My gosh, I have a truck that doesn't roar through my neighborhood! Oh the horror!

I guess I have to immediately go out and buy a .44 Magnum with an 8 inch barrel to compensate!!!! :D

Enjoy your wives fluffy new Raptor.

I wouldn't exactly call 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque with 0-60 in 5.3 sec and quarter mile in 14.0 sec times "fluffy".

The quarter mile time is only a few tenths of a second slower than the Lightnings were and the truck weighs 1000 lbs more than the Lightning.

And its a 4dr with 4wd and a hi-tech off road suspension.

I would LOVE to have a 2003 Lightning. One of my all time favorite vehicles but the new technology has far surpassed the old.

With the mods mine had it was close to 500 at the wheel and was a 12 sec 1/4 truck.

All the high tech suspension is useless if it isnt used for what it was intended for which isnt running to the mall.

Oh and the sound of a tuned chipped long tubed hi flow exhausted 5.4 V8 shames a V6 even with good exhaust.

A V6 will never sound good no matter what you do to it.

I traded my 5.0 F-150 for a 3.5 F-150 a few years ago to gain additional towing capacity for my camper. The only thing I miss is the throaty sound of that V-8. The 3.5 far out classes it for towing ability with a heavy trailer (both have the same gear ratio). IMO no V-6 will match the sound of a V-8 but performance trumps sound.

I drive a 2014 F-150 5.0 with 165,000 trouble-free miles. For the most part, I'm glad Ford "doesn't make them like they used to" -- power steering pumps that would leak like sieves, automatic transmissions with shifters that would slip into reverse on their own, vague steering and lots of body roll, etc.

I've never had anyone question my virility based on any of my trucks....BUT from what it sounds, mine does more miles in 4WD than most of these total in a year!

As stated before, I have 275 hp and have never found the necessity for more!

My 2006 Toyota Tundra has a factory dual exhaust. At least I think it's factory I bought it used with that exhaust on it. It was a factory demo so I would guess that somebody ordered it that way but maybe it's aftermarket.

In any case it's a TRD sport model without TRD decal so it looks just like a regular Tundra. When we test drove it my wife, of all people, noted how she liked the sound of the exhaust. It has kind of a deep throaty Rumble to it. It's not very loud but it's louder than a regular Toyota Tundra exhaust system it sounds pretty good 13 years after I bought it.

I put true-duals with an X-pipe on my new Coyote V8, F150.

The sound is downright lovely.

These are magic times for new truck owners. Four-hundred horse power and only 4,300 pounds.

Congrats on the new Raptor!
