New Ford Raptor RANT

Don't some of these new cars enhance the engine sound using the car's entertainment system?

For most of us, high school was a long time ago. Others seem to be stuck there, mentally at least. :D

Yep, a long time ago. Four years of HS, four years of college, twenty six + years in the Army,
ten years working as a marine biologist for National Marine Fisheries Service,
totally retired for twenty years with some investments that turned out rather well
equal a retirement hobby that I like. :)

What's yours?

The Ford vs Chevy wars have nothing on where this thread is going.

Give me a V-8

Amen brother!!!!
I just wanted to state that I would have rather listened to a throaty V8 and man this thing took off.
I dropped off about half way down the first page cuz folks were getting wound up.
Last two likes got my curiosity so had to check back on it.
I'll be more careful next time I post in the lounge!!
Been entertaining, thanks to all who spoke their minds, advocates and detractors alike.

I have a relatively new 2019 F150 with the 3.5 EcoBoost and absolutely could not be happier with it. This truck does EVERYTHING I ask of it including towing my 7,000 lb travel trailer with ease (rated for 13,200). This one's 375 HP (not sure what they do to the Raptor motor to push it to 450?). People that have driven it are amazed at the quickness and torque of this truck (including those who drive the V8 Silverados).

And to those that question the longevity of the V6 turbos, I couldn't care less as I trade them every two years! And .... I love the "whisper" sound of the turbos!

I have a friend that is the top tech at a Ford dealership. His opinion is the 3.5L Ecoboost engine is superior to the new 5.0L power plant. I didn't question why he thought so but trust his opinion.

Not mine I used it as a truck. However shortly after acquiring my land I needed more space. So it was sold.

That's the truck and color I started out looking for when I bought my Ram. Hard to find one that hasn't been run to death here in the south. I've never been a "this is better than that" when it comes to vehicles. Albeit, I have always been partial to MOPARS, but I love em all.

Im in Texas. I went to NH in 2015 to buy it 36k orig mi trk never out from oct to apr. 19k. Everything in local area was 100k plus mi and 19-20k price.
In 3yrs I put 30k on it I drove it daily.

If I had not needed more space and a more lets say user friendly "truck" Id have never sold it. I shamed many a new RAM hemi in it and many other cars who thought oh its a pick up.
Miss that truck for sure. Nothing on market now compares IMO.

I could really not care less how a truck sounds, but until they lower them enough I don't need a step ladder to get in and out, can reach over the side to get something out of the bed, and don't need a ladder to reach the dipstick, I'm not buying a another one. I don't know why the manufacturers think they have to be jacked up three feet.

Try putting that much power in a 3200 lb car with 4 wheel drum brakes
Trucks are boring by comparison

Well I street raced all though the 60s early 70s and disc brakes were just coming into being. Most all the muscle cars of that era had 4 wheel drum brakes. Many of them also were not power so a strong leg was mandatory for a good stop. Also many muscle cars of that time did not have power steering as PS was considered a parasite and could take 10-12 horse power.

My very well modified 67 RT had power steering and the belt was pulled at the drag strip, as you wanted ever bit of power you could get.:D

I saw an Orange Raptor on the road yesterday that was a 6.2 liter.
Is that the V-10 engine? If so, , man that must chug gasoline?
Nice looking truck

Back in the day I had a couple of Chevy pickups with 350 engines. They got de-smogged and tweaked here and there. For an exhaust system I ran tube headers bolted to a pair of Cherry Bomb straight-through mufflers followed by a few feet of pipe then another Cherry Bomb on each side and a tailpipe. The sound was the sweetest low rumble and the truck could really breathe a lot better. Both were doing 100 MPH when they hit 100,000 miles on the interstate. Good times.

Turbocharged smaller engines are the wave of the future, unfortunately, because they help manufacturers meet government fuel economy requirements. Take Cadillac, for example. The base engine in most Cadillacs is a puny four cylinder turbo. Most Cadillac engine upgrades are V-6s. You have to look pretty hard (and pay a big premium) to get a Cadillac V-8. Remember when all Cadillacs came with smooth, powerful V-8s as standard equipment? Sadly, those days are gone forever. Your friendly Cadillac salesperson will tell you, "Yes, most of our cars are four cylinder models, but they put out as much horsepower as a V-8!" That may be so, but is it truly a Cadillac if the engine makes an ugly strangled rice rocket sound when you step on the gas? Bleah!

And it may get worse. In the future, I can see customers walking into their Cadillac dealer and finding that the only available engine has one cylinder. The salesperson will tell them, "Yes we only offer half-liter, one-cylinder Cadillac engines these days, but because each engine has ten turbochargers, it puts out 500 horsepower, and gets 60 miles per gallon! And if you don't like how it sounds, we offer the optional engine sound tuning upgrade. Using a simple slide control on your electronic display, your can alter your engine sound from a luxurious, smooth "pocketa-pocketa", to a sporty, rough "pocketa-pocketa."

I can hardly wait.

I thought one of the reasons to buy a caddy was to not hear the engine.

I used to own a MINI Cooper S - the last year of the superchargers - that thing could FLY with only 168hp and a 6 speed tranny
