New Ford Raptor RANT

Girls Exhaust.

Wife's 2010 Raptor hit 99,950 miles last week. So time for it to go away. That is her reasoning.
So this past weekend she heads to the local Ford dealer and buys a 2019 Raptor.
Beautiful truck, Tuxedo black, big tires etc.
I finally got to drive it this evening.
I was impressed with the ride, comfort and the performance of the twin turbo'd V6. Puts out 450 HP and it moves when you plant the accelerator. Really moves.
Then I noticed that the sound emitting from the exhaust was flat out embarrassing. Sounded like some V6 sedan with a high flow muffler.
Good lord was I disappointed. I say that with all sincerity. Took all the joy out of driving it for me.
This is an AMERICAN TRUCK!!!!! Known for it's performance, power and off road capability and it sounds like the neighbor kid's souped up Toyota Tacoma. No throaty rumble idling at a stop, no beastly roar when you stomp the gas goin down the road.
I have been a die hard Ford man all of my adult life. Never drove them because they were fast, just have had very good luck with them. But the Raptor is a muscle truck and it sounds like some Metrosexual hipster trying to have a polite argument with his girlfriend. PATHETIC

Quit is what sells. I would take a look at Borla exhaust. It is after all a V6.

I have heard sewing machines that made more noise than our 2004 Matrix. Two tuneups. One master cylinder. One air conditioner compressor. Coming up on 250,000 miles.

Noise is wasted power.

I am not macho...lol

The guy down the street owns one of those loud *** GT350's but always drives down the street below 30mph until he gets to the main road. He's a non macho good neighbor.

I am the guy with the 2013 BOSS 302... factory exhaust is thrilling.. and if you think the GT350 is loud... wait until he upgrades to the new GT500 coming... got to see a pre-production prototype GT500 on track at a Mustang gathering here in the middle of America...
it sounds evil... very cool... get one of those if the OP needs the sound...

With the mods mine had it was close to 500 at the wheel and was a 12 sec 1/4 truck.

Nope, a V-6 will never sound as good as a V-8.

"Modified" Raptors are in the 650+ hp range (not at the rear wheels) and are also in the 12 sec 1/4 mile club.

I would be willing to bet that a large portion of Lightnings never made it past being a grocery getter either.

+1 on V-8s.

I will be sad when my RS5 goes to trade-in. Newer cars are more fuel efficient, tech-advanced, and generally better. But the grumble at idle :)

I bought a new 2018 Ram Quad Cab V6 and I'm quite happy with it. A 305 hp engine with plenty of power, a perfect 8 speed tranny, and a low throaty sound like a V8 but is very quiet, just exactly the way I want it! I get 21 mpg in the city and I drive with heavy right foot and the best part is it will be paid for in a couple of months.

I would have bought the old Raptor from her at what the dealer was offering for trade in (real numbers) and and played with the exhaust some. That truck is going to be a collectors item one day but who says you can't have some fun with it until it gets there. The neighbors will love you.

Not in a 3-shift, 24 hour town they won't. :p

The last one I was i with the turbo six, Ford was pumping V8 music through the speakers.

Yes and you can thank all of the Gov't. regulations, standards, laws, etc. which auto manufacturers must obey to be able to meet. All of the requirements placed upon them have totally changed the type of vehicle they can make. With the way the Gov't. rules are going, soon the horse will become the mode of transportation. Anyone interested in opening a buggy whip factory with me?

It won't happen. The SPCA will get involved.

Not mine I used it as a truck. However shortly after acquiring my land I needed more space. So it was sold.

It's not limited to American car manufacturers, all of them seem to be going cheaper. Lots more plastic instead of metal and plastic parts that used to be thick plastic are now thin plastic. Engines designs are going away from 8 and even 6 cylinders, the future is turbocharging, which increases heat under the hood and makes for a more complex engine. Manual transmissions are all but gone and automatic transmissions are going to very complex 8 speed designs or those laggy, sluggish, heat generating continuously variable types.

My new F150 has a very smooth 10 speed auto transmission. VERY smooth shifting and a great ride for long trips. The 19.5 mpg is nice as well.

Try putting that much power in a 3200 lb car with 4 wheel drum brakes
Trucks are boring by comparison
