Location
Texas Gulf Coast...
Back in the Piney Woods of East Texas for most
of deer season.
Made some of my old runs to local pawn shops.
Came up on what appears to be an excellent model 13-4
with the 3 inch barrel.

I don't see many 13's much less 3 inch barrels.

Seems a go at $420 + tax...they wont budge just
hit the showcase.

Went back and bought it...

The 3" Model 13 is one of the best carry revolvers ever made, some may even say the best. I love mine, and it's my favorite revolver to carry. That price is VERY low. Jump on that QUICK!

I checked to make sure you weren't within about 100 miles of me in NC. If you were it would already be gone.

I'd have taken it at $420 without dickering.

I'd rather have the stainless version, Model 65.

But I'd grab a M-13 at that cost, if it checks out OK.

I presume that you know this was the final revolver issued to FBI agents before they adopted autos?

Winchester's 145 grain .357 Silvertip was their Magnum round and gives about 1200 FPS from a three-inch barrel, and is VERY effective in shootings by the Bureau and by Dallas PD. One detective who researched those shootings told me that it was almost TOO effective for his liking. But I'd rather have overkill than underkill.

Nice ones are more like $650. So depending upon condition, I'd buy that for sure. I agree with respect a model 65 if I'm intent on carrying it, but strike while the iron is hot and cheap!!

Thanks for this information about the FBI load - I never knew this. I would have thought the "regular" duty round would have been either the 158 gr. round - maybe in JHP configuration and maybe +P loading, or the 125 gr. JHP which was the premier man-stopper round back in the days of the revolver when carried by LEOs. I remember seeing a victim that had gotten into a scuffle with a Texas DPS trooper who shot him in the hip (buttocks) using the 125 gr. JHP round from his Model 28 duty revolver. The damage was quite impressive.

Regards,

Dave
