Show me how you store your ammo!

It's more orderly than it looks. Joe

Prefer to store my stocks of primers in the plastic MTM ammo cans. Always bothered me to store bulk amounts of something as explosive as primers in a really tight metal container, may be unjustified, just makes me feel better.

I recently moved and put my primers in .50 cal ammo cans during the move. Prior to that they had been stored in their original packaging in Tupperware tubs.

But like you, I have been thinking that maybe having several thousand primers in a sealed ammo can may not be such a good idea. Kind of like the principle of having a powder locker with loosely fitting doors.

Does anyone see any problems in storing primers in ammo cans ? I can switch back to Tupperware once I'm done unpacking and getting my loading bench set up.

If they every go off, chances are you won't be home. If by chance you happen to be home and watching your house burn to the ground, the polite thing to do would be to warn the firemen as you are running for cover.

I do keep mine in ammo cans (5 bricks per can) but in a separate out building than my powders and loaded ammo. If my place ever catches fire I will probably stand safely at the end of the street to watch, and warn the fire crews as they roll up. Between the primers, powders, and loaded ammo, I would bet that it would make the evening news. :)

So there's some in
-the gun cabinet drawers
-some in the loaded magazines,
-some in the guns which are in the cabinet
-some in the range bag next to my bed,
-some in air tight buckets in my closet,
-some in my carry gun
-a few rounds in the truck backup magazine.

I'm sure I'm probably missing a hideout spot somewhere..
For the moment I couldn't tell you on hand round count, as I haven't updated my list in a while, or shot in a while :(

I use cardboard ammo boxes from midwayusa, then print lables with load data for each box. I'm remodeling my den right now so I've got a pile of roughly 10,000 rounds on the living room floor.

Pistol-50 or 100 rounds /ziplock bag that go into cookie tins on a shelf
Shotgun-factory boxes on a shelf
Rifle-factory or plastic boxes on a shelf
When I had kids at home it was all stored in a locked trunk

I keep ammunition stored in military style ammo boxes or modern plastic ones. I used to keep my cowboy ammunition stored in a wood chest. I also keep ammo "not" stored in such things but lying around.....and 1000 rounds of 9mm cooked off in last year's fire!!!! When I move home I will continue to store ammunition in military and modern plastic storage boxes. In a closet or, maybe, in my new safe room. But not just lying around. I am done with that noise - and there WAS noise!!!

Keep mine in locking metal cabinets, each with two metal shelves to neatly separate types. 12" deep, so sealed ammo boxes fit in just fine. They're in A/C part of home.
Got 'em shipped to my door from Globalindustrial.com $100-$150 each.
I won't be running out of ammo anytime soon.

Bottom of the gun cabinet is full to the brim witb shotgun shells.... handgun ammo and .22 are condensed to a few ammo cans stashed away

My son uses a a lot of military ammo boxes, but at 67, I find that's too heavy for me. 50-100 round plastic boxes work well for my needs.

All the reloads for shotshell is stored in the tubs you can get at Wally World loose. I know what they are. I use a lot of military ammo boxes for handgun ammo...loose also marked as to the load..Factory ammo I keep on shelves. Powder is mostly in the dry root cellar as I have an awful lot... Primers I will NOT put in military ammo cans as in case of a fire they can turn into nasty surprises for the fire people. I usually only have about 100M and they are kept in lockable plastic totes with wheels...the rimfire ammo is kept in the metal cabinets in the almost finished reloading etc room. I keep a lot of it also. Trying to remove the bulk of the ammo/reloading supplies out of the house though. We heat mostly with wood.

I do store the primers in a separate part of the house from the powder. I think on my next trip to Walmart or Target I am going to get a few plastic storage tubs for the primers. I don't like the idea of keeping them in .50 cal ammo cans.

Somebody needs to do some serious ammo shopping. :D

The top self in china cabinet collapsed so moved to the bottom. I buy range ammo on sale and couple boxes of defense rounds . Guns are hid with EDC 9mm Shield out ready to go.

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't think you'd have any china left after the top shelf collapsed. ;)
