Glock 17

I've never been a Glock "hater" just never thought of owning one, I'm a big S&W fanboy, remember? But I got some Christmas cash and was looking for something different to add to my stable of S&W's. First up was a Coyote tan Glock G19X, but when I returned to the shop, it had been sold  then looked at an M&P 2.0 w/5" bbl in FDE, but after handling decided it wasn't for me. Then looked at a G45/G19/G17. LGS made me an offer on a new Gen 4/17 I couldn't pass up.

Went to the indoor range and ran 100 rounds through it (after cleaning/lube before hand). It shot okay, felt okay in the hand and was accurate enough-okay, I kinda liked it :D. Don't care for the standard Glock sights, so may have to change those. Was expecting to have trouble getting my shots on target, but no issues there either. (That whole grip angle thing).

That "Made in Austria" still irks me, first non-USA made handgun in my stable. But I have to admit, even though it's UGLY, it shoots and handles well. Just wanted to share my New Years experience...;)

Yes they do handle good...Ive owned around 4 or 5 different models. But I can never shoot them as good as my 1911 for some reason. Enjoy it..

They’re fine guns....I have 6 different models in 5 different calibers and they all shoot as straight as one can hold them....they serve a purpose and are easily replaceable....tough as heck too..
I too am a fan of more traditional handguns but have a Glock around all day, everyday....cheers!

My younger brother was in his 15th year (1985) on the Washington D.C. Police force (MPDC) when they transitioned him from his M-10 to a Glock 17 (9mm). I went with him for a shooting session shortly thereafter. I was disdainful to say the least of those new gawdawfullugly "plastic" guns. After a few 17 round mags of non-stop 9mm arriving exactly where I was aiming, I knew I had to have one. Nowadays I have six - 9mm
.40 S&W and 45 acp --- They are ugly and have absolutely no "charisma" whatsoever, but serious business if needed in "harms way".

Glock makes a good, formally good priced, item. Lately theyve jacked up the prices to $550+ for new Glocks......So I stick to the used market on them.

However there isnt any arguing they make a good product.....I call them the Toyota Corolla of guns, they arent super expensive, they arent high end, they arent fancy.....but they will get the job done and you dont have to worry about much at all besides oil changes.

Plus the aftermarket support is just about as best you can hope for, sights, holsters, spring kits......and if you want to trick out your Glock.....plenty of ways to do it.

I personally try to keep a few Glocks on hand, currently only have a Gen 4 19.

I have one Glock (29). Point it where you want the bullet to hit and that's where it goes. I'm not real fond of the striker trigger pull but it doesn't affect my ability to shoot accurately.

If I get another it's probably a G48. Range gun but compact enough to carry and it feels great in my hand.

My younger brother called me up a couple of years ago to ask about buying a handgun. Specifically he wanted a Glock in 9mm b/c he felt both he and his wife would be able to use it for HD. I got him a blue label G-19 set up w/ better sights, etc. To my knowledge neither he nor his wife have ever fired a handgun other than a 686 about 25 years ago. This has for them been an excellent pistol, one that both she and he can easily manage and with which they can both do very well at the range. Far as I know, my SIL had never shot a handgun. My brother last shot one 25 years ago. Loaded it up and shot POA= POI at 12-15 yds. Can't ask for better than that. Their son can take the pistol and keep a magazine full of ammo inside 2-2 1/2 inches at 15 yds. Of course he's only 22 years old ... young eyes, etc. Also helps that he is US Army now currently deployed. Sincerely. bruce.

Can't argue with them. They just work. Everyone should have at least one G17 or 19. Do they excite me like my Model 29s? No, but if the SHTF, my G34 would probably be the first handgun I'd go after.

Took the new Glock to the range today and fired another 60-70 rounds of 115 gr fmj. Shot it side by side with my FS M&P 9. The M&P feels nicer in the hand, but I could shoot one, pick up the other and no issues with accuracy. If the Glock looked nicer, it would make a nice S&W----LOL :-) Have to say, it's a nice shooting pistol. The one thing I like over the M&P-the squared front trigger guard. I miss that on S&W semi-autos.

Glocks are okay, don't be too ashamed and they're disposable too.

I own two Glocks, a 19 and a 20. I have carried both on occasion, shot them a fair amount and had to use the Model 20 once. They are both highly reliable and easy to maintain. I put decent sights on both and did a butt job on the Model 20 (short fingers) but they are fine weapons. Ugly, but fine.

...the Washington D.C. Police force (MPDC) when they transitioned him from his M-10 to a Glock 17 (9mm)...

The ONLY Glock I own is an MPDC marked G17 from that era. It makes me smile to think that Adrian Fenty might have needed the money its sale as surplus brought to pay Gura's legal fees in the Heller case.

Was looking at night sights for the Glock and called a buddy who is retired LEO/SWAT Team Leader. Said one of his LEO buddies had 2 sets for sale. Ended up buying both, though I was only after the TFX PRO set he had ($65). My buddy installed them while I was there. First set of sights I've ever changed on a handgun since starting shooting handguns in 1980. Took a few shots to check zero, seems to be on the money. Will let you know how they work out. Another 70 rounds through 2 new mags I picked up from the LGS.

TFX sights are nice I think. Welcome to the dark side. There is no turning back now that you know the truth about the evil black gun.
