Collecting Classic S&W Automatics

I'll echo what has already been said. All gen 1-3 semis are becoming scarce in my area. Not long ago I could count on seeing a few on every trip to my LGS's. Last week the only semi I saw was a nice 39-2, that I should have bought, because two days later it was gone. And now I never see 2nd Gens and if a 3rd Gen pops up, it is usually a 5906. Get em while you can.

Summit Gun Broker still has some CHP trade-in 4006TSW, now with two mags.

Gun Prime has some police trade-in 5906 with one mag.

Not including links but they're easy to find.

I've said it before, buy any and all 3rd gens you can afford. The day's coming you'd wished you had.
Like I said. I happened across this over the weekend and, well, you know the rest.
Came with 7 mags and it's a 4566 "Fresno Sheriffs Department 150 yrears Anniversary Edition" (new to me) anybody got any info I'd appreciate you sharing it with me, i.e. production numbers, etc.
In it's dirty state here, I pick it up next weekend.

S&W59 is my kinda guy. I've done a similar thing.

Somebody, I think it was the Lucky Gunner web site, had a chart with all the S&W 1 - 3 Gen pistols listed. Somehow I decided I'd get one of each generation...not collectors' guns, but shooters I could afford.

Over the years I've gotten one 39 & 59; a 639, 659 and 645; a 3904, CS9 and 3914; 4566 and 4513; 5906 and 6906; plus I'm about to jump on a 4013TSW and I'd like a 4506TSW CHP in honor of my best pal, a retired CHIP who just passed away from cancer. And I have one M&P in 9 and one in 40. And a 1911SCe.

So far I'm resisting adding 10mm to the caliber collection. .

My only regret is there are so darn few folks who appreciate that group of guns. I can't display them for security reasons so they sit in the safe; if I drag them out and show off to company half the neighbors think I'm some sort of a gun wacko; and it's usually a long haul to our annual S&W yearly get-together. Which makes this forum all the more valuable. There ain't a lot of us, but quality here makes up for quantity.

+1 ^^^^^^ Which is the best?? I dunno, I like quite a few of 'em. LOL
For those of you who might like to collect one of each.......Here's the link to Lucky Gunner's Guide to S&W 1st, 2nd, 3rd Gen Models: https://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/guide-smith-wesson-semi-automatic-models/

Somewhere (probably here) I seem to recall reading that almost 300,000 39-2s were made over about 20 years.

I never bought one because I read in one (or more) of the Gun Rags of the day (late 70s) that the extractor could/would break at the most inopportune time.

My Asst Chief of Security carried one off duty and qualified with it 2X per year............ 95% or better.

It was only after joining here that I learned the truth...... but by then the 3rd Gen guns were out and in my holster......... that said I don't seem to be able to get by without at least one 39 in the safe.

The only S&W auto I don't like..... but owned one for 6 or 7 years is the 469 which to me has the grip of a 2X4.

I agree, collecting these is like collecting fine art for me. Here are a few of my favorites...
