Rethinking your carry choice in light of the riots.

No change, it all depends on the weather, or how I feel that particular day. I'm not close to big cities and don't like them anyway...

I don't carry any different than usual but I do would like some exploding bullets...

The only thing I have changed is I loaded a shotgun and put it in the top of the closet. I still carry a revolver.

No change here. I live in a small coastal Oregon town and except for the virus precautions not much has changed. Sometimes it's a hassle living in a small community other times it's a relief.

Yeah, it's changed a few things for me, but I seem to be going against the current.

I'm no longer occasionally dabbling in semi-autos. I'm back to magnum revolvers (usually an S&W 65, 28, or 629). If civil unrest causes me to have to defend myself, I want the most reliability I can get. While I don't rely on the concept of stopping power, I'm sticking with calibers that give me a better chance at resolving the issue with the least number of shots fired.

I'm also keeping a long gun handy. For reasons stated above, the long guns I keep accessible are 12 gauge shotguns.

Another plus for magnum revolvers is that, as a handloader, I can always find cast lead bullets for lots and lots of practice. Finding plated or jacketed bullets for polygonal semi-auto barrels is getting more difficult every day right now.

But, more than anything above, I pay very close attention to the news now, trying to anticipate what problems are brewing near me, so I can avoid those problems entirely.

I live 30 miles from downtown St Louis. I ride bicycles and love the Katy Trail, but I haven't been over there this spring. I've been staying in Illinois. Seems like unrest can break out anywhere so I just stay on my side of the river.

My EDC LC9 recently broke. It fired when it was a little less than 1/16" out of battery and the case head separation sent the ejector into orbit, as well as bending the loaded chamber indicator. I haven't got it fixed - or even contacted Ruger about it yet.

Anyway, I started carrying a little pocket 380 for a week or so. Then all the riots & etc started. I still pocket carry the 380 around the house.

Even though I'm in a relatively conservative medium sized town, I decided for spending time out in public I needed to step up my CCW game.

So I switched to my PT145 for EDC. 10 rounds in the mag, 1 in the pipe and a spare 10 round mag in my off side pocket. All 21 rounds are 230gr HP ammo.

It is a little heavy and a bit bulkier than the LC9, but still manageable. And the PT145 has always been dead on 100% reliable without ever a single hiccup.

Fox had a picture of an armed female in the "CHOP" zone on the news last evening.....

I did a double take and scrolled back for a second look.......

Not an AR-15 but a S&W 15-22 with no front sight.........................

I did exactly the same, scrolled back taking a second look at her.

I still carry my Model 438 concealed but did add a car gun in my center console. Originally my car gun was a three inch Model 10 but after the first time I forgot about it leaving it in the car for two days. I replaced it with a beater Charter Arms 38. I fear having it stolen if left out over night. About three years ago forgetting to lock up my SUV somebody got in, emptied the contents of the console and glove compartment on the floor board. The only thing missing was at best a buck or two in loose change and cell phone charger. My CA 38 is paperless to me and if I forget it and it’s stolen I’m not out big bucks. I’d be heart broken losing any S&W revolver to a thief. If for some reason I had to travel near possible trouble. I’d likely open carry my SARS 45 with 15 rd mag and a spare or my Beretta PX 40 concealed.

I noticed two posts from Phoenix residents basically saying no big trouble here. Last Friday afternoon I was stuck on I-17 southbound. Both the exit and on ramps on Thomas rd were blocked. Southbound I-17 was like a parking lot but northbound moving but slowly. I couldn’t see what was happening just a lot of flashing red lights. Possibly it was coincidental there were wrecks on both ramps. I looked for something on the local news, nothing. The following Monday I called a city councilman’s Office to find out what happened. Got a call back on Tuesday telling me they were unaware of anything.

I've swapped out the 940 for the 66-4 for my weekly trips to Crazytown. 1 speedloader.

When there was active rioting it was the Pre 29 +1 speedloader.

So no, I haven't stepped up to carrying semiautos- yet. I do have a Rami and a Springfield Hellcat. The Rami seems completely reliable will ball ammo but I need to try it with HP's. I haven't gotten around to reliability testing the Hellcat.

I would think the penetration of the 29 with 250 grn hard cast would take the place of a number of magazines of 9 m/m.
Multiple targets with one shot and all. Just sayin’.

Nothing much is going to save you until authorities get this mess under control. MG 42s are hard to find.

Looking at the video and pictures of "protesters" with semi-auto (?) long guns.......... the odds are stacked against anyone armed with only a handgun if the SHTF and moves toward -UBAR

Sitting in the front seat with your 2" model 60..... while taking 5.56 or 7.632x39 rounds through the windshield

Think the final scene from "Bonny and Clide"....... redux

I mostly agree with this. A handgun is for when you don't think you are going to need a gun.

If we are talking about societal collapse, the breakdown of the rule of law, mob justice, ...

That sounds like long gun time to me.

If a gun isn't convenient, I'm not going to carry it. I carry a J frame in my front pocket because it can go anywhere and it's unobtrusive.

I've thought about getting a Ruger LCP because they are small, and everyone says they're ultra reliable. Then I could get about ten extra magazines and put them in some kind of man purse.
The 380 has worked for European police forces and its worked in the military. I'm thinking a small semi-auto and about 60 rounds of ammo would be good to have if I ever got stranded in the midst of social unrest. And the Ruger would be a good 24/7/365 gun. I wouldn't carry the extra mags day-to-day. Only when the situation warranted. They would probably live in my car.
