Speaking of stupid people...

The sister of the clerk in Acorn's gun shop works the counter at my local McD's. I ordered a sausage McMuffin that came out to a dollar fifty something. I gave her two bucks and then waited for my change. She finally picked out four dimes and some pennies. I came back a couple of days later and ordered the same item. Same girl and this time she was definitely having trouble figuring out my change. Finally she came up with four dimes and the pennies. OMG........she did not know how to combine a quarter, a dime, and a nickel to come up with 40 cents. This was truly sad........... and we have politicians fighting to keep the kids from going back to school.

And people make fun of West Virginia.
The local hardware/grocery/gun shop/gas station/diner lost their internet and couldn't take credit cards. So they asked people to pay in cash. The change of which they calculated in their heads.
I really like living out here.
By the way, out here "local" is within a 30 mile radius.

I was paying my bill at a local gun shop. Total was $110.00. I gave the young lady a $50 and three $20s. She called another clerk over and fanned out the money on the counter and asked him if it was right. Said she just hated it when people gave her mixed bills.

I did a similar thing when I bought a shotgun over in York. If I remember correctly, the final cost was $363, so I paid it with 6 $50s, 5 $10s, 5 $2s and 3 Golden Dollars. The clerk's comment was "That's a strange menagerie."

The son of a friend of mine graduated from high school. He went to take his driving test but kept failing the written part. Turns out he knew the rules of the road but couldn't read well enough to understand the test . the examiner read the test to him and he was able to answer the questions and passed the test that way. Another example of our fine education system.

Pop had a great line when I thought I was getting unsolicited advice from him when I was growing up, "If the older generation didn't pass along its knowledge to the younger generation, we'd still be living in caves."

From the collective knowledge of the forum, is there some way that we can pass along our practical knowledge from the past to upcoming generations?

I've tried to do my part. I've probably made references to how I used to work with old land measurements that have been carried forward. When my successor at a prior job died, the firm asked me to come in and teach about the old land measurements to others in the firm so that they would not have a big gap in their knowledge in dealing with land measurements that related to the firm's business. It was some beer money for me, but more importantly I felt it was a responsibility to the profession.

Of course, I probably seem like a clueless dinosaur when dealing with cell phones and computers.

.....and I would bet even the dunbest would know if they got a box of donuts with 11!

But would they know if they got a "Baker's Dozen?" The Maple Donuts chain over around York actually sells "Baker's Dozen" donuts as a regular offering. That's 13 donuts.

They still put it on egg cartons.

But the posters above were ordering fried chicken parts. That's different, so "dozen" doesn't apply, because it's only used for eggs.

BTW, "placeholder" can be used to describe someone you date until you meet someone you really like. Maybe the 28 year-old son was just filling in until a more responsible person could come care for the parents.

OT, but I still love the way "local" means so many different things in the US. Vegas is especially weird being such a huge sprawl bordered by nothing for tens of miles.

30 miles SE gets me to a buddy's place in Henderson, still within the Clark County conurbation. 30 miles in any other direction doesn't get me anywhere except North Las Vegas, roughly east from my house. NW it does get me most of the way to Indian Springs, but at any other point of the compass 30 miles takes me barely halfway to nowhere in particular.

Spot on with the eggs thing. Joining up what it says on the poster for your job and what is on an egg carton is far too big a leap.

As for a "placeholder" in dating, I think the younger folk have another two word term for that, with the second one being "buddy".;)

Often, it's not that many are stupid, it's that they're not well educated. The current educational system is a total farce with the aim of indoctrinating our kids with leftist ideals and dependency on the state. Very little of life skills that are of value in the real working world are imparted onto our children anymore, let alone the "three Rs"; and don't even bring up the ethics of the Christian Bible. I come from a family of educators, so I hear and see it often.

no need to learn anything in school when everything you need to know is on their cell phone. nothing worse then when they ask you a question and then in the middle of you giving them your answer their looking it up on the phone or are checking their e-mail. they will always blame someone else for their short comings. working hard for the things you want or need or to better yourself went out the window a while ago. I swear if a virus would hit their cell phones the number of deaths would be triple then the coronavirus...

We are now reaping the decisions made during the Viet Nam War protests. I don't recall the President who said that if a person became a teacher, they would be exempt from the Viet Nam War military draft. Where do you think a majority of the left-wing anti-war radicals went? They became teaching professors in college. My brother went to college in the late 1970's and is a leftist, liberal and true blue socialist. He says his professors "opened his eyes".

First of all, I do think there are some very good young people mixed in with the Millennial generation. However, in my opinion there are some serious indicators of an entitled group that lacks the understanding of strong work effort and responsibility. As a result, there are two things I believe may happen..... 1. The Millennials figure it out and grow into a higher level of responsibility and ownership 2. The next generation will go right past them in achieving greater success and become more self reliant
