Maybe this is old news. I strayed into the CMP website and they appear to have a variety of ammo for sale, in stock. Prices aren't pre-panic or anything but they show it available.

I put something in my cart and headed for checkout. It didn't throw up any objections.

Civilian Marksmanship Program eStore

I'd be interested to know if anyone successfully buys anything.

It wasn't all that long ago that the CMP was selling surplus Lake City .30-06 Ball ammo for $0.20/round. That was maybe 10 years ago. Greek HXP started about the same price a couple years later. Prices have steadily increased as the surplus ammo dried up. Prices are about the same as retail now.

I ordered two cases of their Eley standard ammo back in November. I expect to get it about the first of the year. I thought it was a good deal. I will let you know how it shoots in some of my rifles. Note that the ammo I ordered is out of stock at this time.

You do need to be a CMP member to order ammo. I did order some .30 cal. carbine from them. It took about 5 weeks total time from order to my receiving the ammo. That was just about 3 months ago.
FWIW the ammo is creedmore brand and my SSG (Saginaw Steering Gear) carbine does NOT like that ammo.

What doesn't work about that ammo? I investigated and Creedmoor uses Starline brass, a Hornady 110 gr RN bullet and comes out around 2,000 fps. Totally within specs.

You need to be a member of a CMP affiliated shooting club. There is a CMP club membership number that is required at time of the completion of the order. Main reason why so much ammo is available is that hoarders & re-sellers are not the type of buyers this organization attracts.
