Which weight J frame carry guns do you prefer?

Armoloy 36

I like the steel versions. This 36 was "Armoloyed" in 1981, and has primarily served as a secondary since then. I have tried lighter versions but always come back to a 36 or 60.

Steel, only because it's what I have, Model 36 and 49. If I carry one, it's the 49. Like it and shoot it better.

Fantastic question by the OP.
I own a 1955ish blued steel flat latch Chiefs Special and also the 638. Honestly, I do carry the 638 more often, by far. But the chiefs special is better at the range.

J frames are great for carry, but they suck at the range regardless of weight, let's face it. IMO.

I own 5 all steel J-frames - 2 x 36, 2 x 60 and 1 x 60-15 - mostly carried IWB in a Milt Sparks VMII built for the 60-15.

Anxiously awaiting to take delivery of a new custom Snubbyfan OWB holster for my 2" J's.

Metal Man: It is worth the wait. They look nice, are well made,feel good and my 36, 38,638, and 642 stay in the holster, whether on the belt or shaking it vigorously, unlike my Don Hume IWB which stay in if on belt and body but fall out easily if canted even slightly. Be Safe,

I always carry full power ammunition in my J-frames

So I prefer to carry and shoot the heaviest one I own in that caliber

When I carry concealed, I carry the heaviest J-frame that is appropriate to how I am dressed

So if it is T-shirt and shorts I carry a M&P340. If it is slacks ad a jacket,then I carry a 640 and o on

Guessing that one in the center is for open carry at the BBQ?

This'll be the second Model 37 dropped into this thread. Today, carried this 1977 Model 37 square butt. The stocks feel great in hand and conceal easy with this TT Gunleather holster.

Pocket carry in the summer I like my 442. Otherwise I prefer the all steel 60s and 640s

I do likewise. I don't use a J-frame nearly as much as I used to. I need to get one out and practice a little.

When I am shooting more than a few rounds, I prefer to practice with a similar steel-frame gun (640).

My Grandad's 36 when I'm feeling nostalgic or want to shoot stuff at any real distance...it's amazingly accurate for a snub!!

M&P340 is my go-to j-frame. It's usually in my pocket as a back up to a bigger gun or carried alone as a summer carry. Occasionally will get holster carried on the belt.
