Eagle Heritage Grips......

......anyone have a pair of these ? They look very well made as they should at near $ 200 . They apparently replicate the the old S&W coke bottle grips from the 50's & 60's .
I have a pair of the original diamond Target grips on my Model 14-1 . I find them just a little too large and would like something that looks classic but just a little smaller in diameter.
I have tried Ahrends which were very nice and fit my hand quite well but just looked a little too "modern" on my early 60's model 14. At least to my eyes.
Are these Eagle Heritage grips the same size as the S&W Targets or a little smaller around ?

You do raise an interesting question. I also was looking at the heritage line today both for K/L and N frame. As with many, my hands are not huge.

I am unable from personal experience to answer the question you pose. But this is related: re the K frame I prefer the smooth presentation grips with no checkering, which do seem smaller in circumference. (Of course it could be just manufacturing bell-curve spec variations in the pairs I happen to have.)

I got lucky and found a pair of diamond walnut and diamond rosewood. I like them both, a lot. I think they feel better than standard targets. However the walnuts are getting salty in price. If you look around you can sometimes find them 80-90 bucks

I had some heritage ones that were N square and they resembled coke style grips but found some Nill grips that I liked a whole lot better and still have them. Will try and post a picture tomorrow for you. The checkering is so much sharper on them and they look a bit nicer as well. I would recommend trying to find a set of them to try out.

I have a pair of Eagle "cokes" and find that in comparison to non-coke targets the Eagles are slightly [.020] smaller in diameter than the S&W's. I did the measurements at the medallion, grip screw, and at the bottom.

The checkering I find is lacking in quality.

Otherwise, I like the Eagle grips over the S&W because they do not feel like a 2x4 in my hand. It's more of a rounder feeling.

They're pretty good copies of the original "cokes." Maybe a little smaller as Beecherkid says, I've never measured mine, but they feel about the same as "cokes" to me. Better than lots of other non-factory stocks in my opinion.

I got a set of Eagle Grips on a 38/44 Outdoorsman. I find them to be very close to the original "Coke" grips in size. Definitely smaller than standard S&W N Frame target grips.

I just last month reshoed a Mod 57 Mountain Gun with a set of rosewood Eagle Heritage grips. I'm quite pleased with them. A quick look in my gun safe would clearly show I'm no fan of factory S&W targets, but I was looking for something more traditional for this 57, and original cokes won't fit its round butt. After checking the options, I decided to go with the Eagle over the Nills (partly due to ease of ordering), and the Altamonts (as the aren't really a reproduction but rather a stylized version - with laser checkering at that).

They took about 5 weeks to arrive, which I consider completely reasonable. Having had them for a few weeks now, and having shot the 57 they are on with them, I can say that I like how they feel. They are very favorable to the cokes I've handled both in size and shape. They are thinner than factory targets with a much more oval/rounded shape to them. The checkering, certainly not in the KB or Spegel class, is still very good. I would say that the border on mine appears to be quite different than the pics above. It is not a hog trough like later S&W targets, but rather an angled step that blends nicely. Fit is excellent, nothing sitting too proud, with no movement in the panels.

If I had one complaint it would be the finish. There isn't an option as to matte or gloss, so you get what you get... these showed up looking pretty dry (they look dryer in the pics than they actually are). I put a coat of Renaissance wax on them and the appearance was improved. I may decide to strip them and put an oil finish on them, but I don't feel like I have to. Overall, IMHO they are definitely worth the money.

Total cost delivered was $181. While certainly not cheap, anyone that has ordered custom grips in the last decade can tell you that the price and delivery time isn't unreasonable. After my pleasant experience with these, I might now consider the extra cost of their Turkish walnut model. Just need to find the right gun to put them on.

Just an aside about Eagle Grips. I've been to their facility because it's about 10 miles from me. It's a small facility. The folks are great there, really friendly and very willing to help. I bought a pair of faux ivory stocks for my 1911 Officer' Model with a Colt medallion inset. They told me to bring the gun when I was picking them up and they would do a final fitting on them, no charge.

I highly recommend Eagle as a quality vendor.

I too am looking for a slightly smaller version of the S&W Target grips;
square butt for an 18-3 and round-to-square for a 19-9.

Altamont's site shows a K frame version they specifically describe as having the real Coke bottle shape for both square and round-to-square. Temporarily unavailable, I called and they said June or July. No price listed but based on their other prices, they would be about half the cost of similar Eagles. The Altamont grips that came on my new 19-9 are excellent quality but too big around the bottom, Altamont claims their Cokes are smaller around the bottom than what they are making for S&W.

Someone posted that Altamonts are a little TOO thin at the top and can sting the web of your hand, that is true of the S&W ones on my 19-9; too thin at the top and too big at the bottom.

I appreciate all the replies and in particular the posted pictures . The Eagle grips do look real nice and I can see myself purchasing a pair in the near future. I will probably do without the S&W emblems though and save nearly $40.00 .

Curt does very good work. These Roper clones turned out very nice, reasonable wait and cost was not excessive considering the amount of labor that went into them. Worth checking with him to see what he can do for you.

I have tried to find grips that do justice to my modern RB 629.

I tried Altamont and, although pleased at first, thought they were a little too small.

Also, I really wanted a grip that looked like authentic SW grips from a bygone age.

I took the plunge and bought the Eagle Heritage grips.

I am happy to say that the look, feel and quality is absolutely first rate.

The checkering is nice but very sharp. I foresee ouchies the next time I go to the range.

If I had to ding Eagle it would be that they do not offer a half-moon speedloader cut out option.

I'll add a picture when I get a chance.

They certainly look fine! Any complaints about fit? I was on their website recently; offered are the Heritage in ebony. Great looking! Just shy of $300.00! I'm still pondering a set of Culinas.
