My New Andy Anderson Fast Draw Holster

I just got this lefty Anderson Model "AA" holster. Condition is almost new. Henry Fonda and Jack Elam wore shorter versions in "Once Upon A Time In The West". And Doug McClure did, too half the time in "The Virginian". While it's rough out, I put it on this Safariland (I think) belt I bought fifty years ago when I was about fifteen.Yes, I had to extend it a couple inches since then. I'll make a matching belt later. This high ride holster is amazingly easy to draw fast, even with a long barrel. Just ask Henry Fonda (until Charles Bronson came along). Anderson holsters are hard to find, many sent to Japan. Anderson's catalog called this an "AA" but it has that "V" on it. He did have a Victory Model, too.

Very nice leather. Is it lined for "cowboy draw fast" or does "fast draw" simply mean just quickly and easily for "cowboy action shooting"?

It's metal line around the cylinder and in the curved hip plate on the back, too. It's for fast draw, and in a book on fast draw I have by Bob Arganbright it says this was Anderson's favorite rig to use after coming up with it. And I think that was for live ammo shooting, not wax or blanks.

Yep, metal lining is a key to fast draw. In the 1950s it was a very popular sport, particularly with the Hollywood crowd. I believe it was Mel Torme (he had a huge gun collection) who described both Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis, Jr. as kind of "sudden", their speed was that good.

And, today, cowboy fast draw has made a huge comeback, but I think they stick to wax bullets:
