Have to admit eating it this time wasn't too bad.

As a day or two back I had polished off the last drop of Wild Turkey 101 I stopped by my favorite Spirits store yesterday for more.

Directly across the aisle from WT101 is a large display of Jack Daniels offerings. They've been there forever and for me were simply part of every liquor store's scenery.

I never liked JD Old No 7. Oh I choked down plenty when a kid, a lot of it came back up too! I had zero interest trying anything Jack Daniels.

Well I turned to see the store checkout was quite busy, so I start to browse the aisles. A lot of newer bourbons now that seem to be from Minnesota to, Texas and Ga. Forgive my ramblings.

I ended up back where I had started with a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof staring me in the face.

Something strange happened, the checkout cleared and there I was with my handle of WT and a 750ml JD Barrel Proof on the counter.

Later I pulled the cork and took a whiff. Smelled a bit nutty and surprisingly light for 130 proof.

I let it sit opened for a few minutes before pouring a bit less than two fingers in a Rocks glass.

I expected to be disappointed, but was actually shocked when I took the first sip! This stuff ain't anything at all like what I remember Jack Black being.

The nutty nose followed the flavor, a nice slightly sweet mellow taste with a decent oily mouth feel. The finish is incredibly soft for anything 130 proof.

No, it ain't the best pour I've ever had, but it's far from being the worst.

I try not to judge my firearms, trucks, and whisky with only one outing. I'm not dreading my next trip to the liquor cabinet.

The JD doesn't come close to Booker's or other fine pours I've had. It is easily found and a lot less expensive.

At the price point of around $60, it's in a crowded field and easily overlooked.(Especially if like me, you don't have fond memories of earlier engagements with JD) With single barrel offerings you never know what the next one will be. If my next outing is with this bottle is as good as the first, I can see me risking another $60 for more.

No worries, crow goes down a whole lot easier with some single barrel JD. Per your recommendation, I think I'll pick up a bottle of the barrel proof tonight.

Over the years I have gone from Beam to Bacardi to Jack to Bourbon but nothing comes close to Jack Daniels Sinatra. But for a high proof whiskey the JD Barrel proof is great stuff, I have a second bottle I'm working on when the mood hits me.

I love Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof. Very good stuff, I drink it neat ,very small sips, the flavors explode. Far and away better than regular JD. I'm a bourbon guy, today I had Wild Turkey Rare Breed, last night was Eagle Rare, night before was something else. I have a different one most every day. JD Single Barrel Barrel Proof is something every bourbon lover needs to have a bottle of to try.

Normally a beer only guy here.
No zip about whiskey's.
Last Christmas I received a bottle of
Crown Royal...."Apple"...never heard of it.

Old partner stopped by last week and we broke it open.
Served straight over ice.
Little sweet for me.....his bride liked it.
Sent it home with her.

The bag is good for carrying Golden Dollars.

Black Velvet is aged 8 years in bourbon barrels. Can I call it bourbon?
Many years ago, when I was a much younger lad, I was auditing the
state liquor dispensary. Here in Idaho, liquor is regulated by the state.

I was working a little past 5 one evening and the old superintendent
asked me to come into his office. He showed me a fifth of Black Velvet
and told me he had a store that had been short one bottle every day.
He called the manager of the store, introduced himself, and said you have
never met me, but your going to.

Then he handed the fifth to me and said take this home, pour a glass,
sit down in your favorite easy chair, and just sip it. Pretty soon you will
be out of this world.

So I did, and I was.

I'm pretty new to the world of bourbon, but I've developed a taste for Henry McKenna 10 yr. Single Barrel.

Best regards,
I really enjoyed the Henry McKenna 10 year old stuff until the price more than doubled.

It was about $27/750ml for a long time. Truly a bargain. Two or three years back I bought a bottle @ $30. It was exceptional, so I went back the next day to get a couple more from the same barrel. I placed the two on the counter and the total came up as $98!

I asked the young lady how many did she ring up? Two. I said never mind, don't like it that much.

I see it most places now @ $59/750ml.

Popularity drives up demand, demand drives prices. I'm not saying it ain't worth it, just that I'm not willing to pay twice the price for the same Mckenna.

Although I'm a fine Vodka man ( Belevedere, Bar Hill, Haku, Reyka, etc.), I'd enjoy reading your review and comments re; fine "colored" spirits. You obviously know your stuff, and agree that you should pen a periodic thread about any fine liquor. :)

Thanks for all the replies.

Special Thanks To Those Encouraging Me To Drink More And Tell About it! :D
