Well there never were any full lugged and pinned 14-4s. I think I saw this one or one like it for sale by one of the supposed trustworthy sellers on
GB. But they probably just go by what the owner tells them. The gun Im sure works great and if the barrel was put on correctly Im sure it shoots fine. As a shooting gun it wont differ from any 14-5- 6-7. Ive put that barrel on a couple of 19s with some other work done they shoot great. But its not a true under lugged model. Look where the bottom of the barrel meets the frame. The under lugged guns, and any 19, 66 frame is cut different so it is flat to mate with the bottom portion of the lug. On this gun you can see the lug goes below and away from the frame at the bottom. The frame was for a non lugged model like a 14-4. Like I said I have done that to many guns for guys and they shoot great providing the barrel wasnt over tightened and put on properly. Its not much of a difference, most might not notice, unless you have worked with these barrel swaps. I dont have a picture showing the cylinder open but you can see the frame difference in these photos.
I believe the first under lug 14s were in 91. These guns were designed specifically for police distinguished matches unless it was some type of special order, and I have never seen one, they came with a target hammer and a smooth combat trigger. There was some articles here about the development of this model. Maybe SW made a run of barrels and stuck one on a 14-4 to see how it worked, before modifying the frame, who knows. But you would probably have to have something to back up any claim like that, and they had moved on to model 15s only by 85-86.
I gave up contacting sellers on GB about this type of stuff, they always come back with some smart answer like "we are not experts so we have to go by what the owner told us". So generally its buyer beware.
