I hate my boat

I’ve pretty much always had a boat. Usually a $1000 junker. They were maintenance intensive.
Last year, I broke down and bought a new fishing boat with a new [4 stroke, fuel injected motor. I just hook to it, go to the lake, come home, and occasionally put gas in it. It’s great!
A boat doesn’t have to be the horror show many make it out to be.
It will young padawan...it will......

I bought my 21’ I/O open bow family ski boat in 2000 for $24,000 new.

With six kids and 17 grandkids there has been no sitting around unused during our 6-month season. It could sink tomorrow and I would be ahead on it dollar-wise compared to my maintenance expenses vs family fun.

Went boat shopping two summers ago. Nothing approached the old style simplicity we have now. Prices started at $125,000 for anything comparable (went up to $325k for fancy stuff).

I can tinker for regular maintenance and pay for the other stuff. All part of the family recreation budget. I feel the same way about our four year old in-ground 18x40 (heated) pool which I maintain myself. There have been literally thousands of (individual) hours of use already.

The above are all better than horses.

That's the reason I have so many boats and guns. Whenever I want something new she never complains because she knows that I know how much her stable of horses cost every month.....LOL.

I once had an old Chrysler tri hull bass boat. It always ran great....going away from the dock.

I wouldn't go in a straight line while idling, which made loading it on the trailer quite a challenge. I could replace a trailer tail light fast as a NASCAR pit crew!

I ran aluminum white water jet boats for almost 20 years.
The entire point was to fish rivers where not every boat could run. Mrs. Chukar loved running the rapids. A ton of fun that only cost 2.77 tons of money.
Average boat we had was around $40K, pretty much had to have a 3/4 ton to pull it so there went another $30K.
Then there was the mooring covers, $1K minimum, fill the gas tank? $300-400 depending on what fuel prices were. 100+ gallo tank. How long will that 10 gallons go? About 9-10 hours unless you have your foot in the Chevy big block that propels the beast.
Finally hit my head on a rock one day and woke up wondering how many guided fishing trips I could go on with all the money we spent on the boats. I did not need to run the boat, tow the boat or take care of it when we got home.
We own zero boats now and am very happy when we go fishing with a guide who pays for the boat, cleans and maintains the boat and stores the boat and fuels the boat and……..

Some Good, Some Bad

I got this one in February of the year, just 4K$ spent in ten years. She runs the 90 hp Mariner at 35 knots. A 84 Marlin, I named her Marlene D.

You must not be too good at fishing ??

Fresh 30-60 pound King salmon, lake Kokanee, 10 lb Cutthroat and all the warmwater fish ..........
pay for themselves when you look at store prices.

Nothin like Catfish and hush puppies.

I should have also added that they're worth every penny.
