Hi all,

New to this forum, hoping someone can help.

Have a Shield 9mm that's about 5 years old (pre 2.0). Using S&W mags. Picked up some Liberty Ultra Light +P from my club the other day and just tried it at the range. Out of 24 rounds I had two FTEs. Spent casing was slightly ejected, had to lock the slide and flip the casing out with a penknife. Happened in the middle of the mag each time.

I normally put about 75 to 100 rounds per week through this gun and can't remember the last failure. Mostly fmj range ammo, but I wouldn't have thought the +P would be an issue - glad I tested them!

Has anyone else had this problem - or have an idea of what might be the cause? Thanks in advance!

Your problem is trick ammo. This is a 50 grain bullet supposed to go 2040 fps. It's way outside the parameters for normal 9mm ammo, which is a 124 grain bullet at about 1200.

Many small guns, especially Shields, are prone to problems with out of spec ammo. When I first got my shield, I tried a box of eastern eurotrash "Monarch" 115 grain stuff. Somebody had given me a box. Fail to eject and week ejection right off the bat. I switched to American Eagle and Winchester NATO. Problem solved. (I gave the rest of the box to a guy at the range with a brand new G19. He got squib stuck in the barrel!)

Throw that **** away and get real ammo.

What he said!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, coming to that conclusion. I hadn't had a problem with my Hornady 124gr XTP - plus I can afford the occasional range time with it and it doesn't perform much differently than the ball I use. Any other recommendations?

I have an ammo-picky 1.0 Shield 9. I ran extensive tests of self defense rounds until I found ammo that could go at least 200 rounds without a single failure. Two different brands passed that test: Hornady Critical Duty 135g +P, and Federal HST 147g. Ironically, the ammo I had the most problems with was another HST round, the 124g +P. It jammed (failures to feed) so frequently, that I gave up testing it after 30 rounds.

Thanks, I'll give them a try!
