When my son Dino was born some very generous members here chipped in and bought him a beautiful 17-4. Here he is shooting it last week at the Angeles range. Thanks guys…you know you are. I'd mention you by name but I don't want hundreds of members messaging you that their wives are pregnant.

You have some really good friends and your son has some very special uncles. I would claim that my wife was pregnant but after 42 years of marriage she said not a chance:)

What a great thing to see. A young man being taught to enjoy and respect firearms, not fear and remove them from others, like most young Americans are being taught now.
As a sidebar, which one does he enjoy more, the M17 or the single-six on the table? I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but had to ask anyway.

if I had to guess where his shot went, I'd say low and right; but, he's much better off with that in his hands learn how to use it properly than with a damn video game controller. Keep practicing young man you'll get the hang of it . . . . .

Thanks for noticing...20 years ago I'd tell him to smile....but sadly today that pic might get him kicked out of school.

Exactly! 20 plus years ago when I was running our annual outdoor range qualification I brought my 12 year old son to observe. Some of the SWAT guys let him rip off a few rounds from their suppressed MP40's with the "go" switch turned on. I had to explain to him how important it was to not relate this experience at school - to avoid a visit from Children's Services. He is now a Sergeant on my old department.

My Son and I were talking the other day about my 1943 Colt 1911A1 and how much they had increased in value. His comment was "why don't you just sell it, the next generation won't care about WWII guns".

With great parents like you teaching your Son the correct use of firearms, and I'm sure respect and knowledge of the same, I'm betting my Son is wrong.

We owe it to our children to teach them what we know. If we do it right, the future will be in good hands. Well Done Sir!

The Ruger is a little easier for him to handle but he likes unloading the Smith a little better. So I'd say a bit of a tie.

And the Ruger goes well with his Mountie.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but here's my then 13 year old with my Model 17. I initially got him a Model 34 but it did not take him long before wanting the larger gun.
