Been breaking in my new 9mm micro. :)

Now that I am down from five boxes of 50 to two boxes of 50, I just ordered four boxes at $16.50 per 50 rounds. $16.50 still seems high -- but I want to be able to shoot 25 rounds each trip to the range.

If prices refuse to drop for another few months I will likely be motivated to stock up at the current prices as a hedge against the next round of panic buying.

Crazy money! Early in the gun season here in Illinois some hunters needed some slugs for their shoddy guns. I sold 3 boxes two 20ga and one 12ga. $20.00 each box. Buckshot is not allowed for deer hunting in Illinois. You can believe I've kept plenty back for my own use.

As they say it's all relative. Here in the People's Republic of Kalifornia pre-pandemic prices for 9mm range ammo was around $21-$24 per fifty. During the height of the shortage $50 a box was the norm. Prices right now are around $35 a box if you can find it.

I'm truly hoping to see $12.00 to $12.50 the most for a box of 50 some day soon. I'm not sure we will get there so I will continue to load my own until and if it happens.

I'll admit it takes ~$400 worth of equipment and you have to have small pistol primers to reload, but 9 MM can be reloaded with home cast lead bullets for about $4 per 50. This means that 2K rounds would be the breakeven point on equipment.

I have been casting since 1976 so my stuff is paid for except for additional molds.

There is still good savings to be had in reloading bulk ammo. Even with the inflated prices of primers and other components you can load a quality 9mm FMJ for well under 30 cents per round. You can get below that price if you cast your own bullets and hunt around for the lowest prices. The savings really only works if you are shooting a lot and you don't mind using your time to reload. There is quite a bit of initial expense that takes some time to pay for itself so if you're a casual shooter or don't have the free time to devote, it might not be worth it. Another aspect for precision shooters and hunters is that you can tailor ammo to particular guns and tasks. Reloading can be a hobby unto itself and there are a lot of aspects to it that will take your shooting hobby to another level.

Academy today had a decent variety of 9mm at about $21/box, so it's coming down.

I am with you. My equipment is amortized by now and I was reloading 9mm and 40S&W when it was cheaper to buy it (so I bought a case or two, too). So I keep on pulling the handle and making ammo and enjoying all aspects of shooting, reloading, etc.

Now if only the liquor store would start selling on line! I wouldn't have to leave the house. I could sell my truck and use the cash for ammo and booze!

Cheapest I have found around here is $17.99 for 50 for decent ammo. I have seen bulk, and lower quality stuff a little better, but not much.
