Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

Thinking about that dump, (remembered it was on the West side, not the East). Any way, one day some folks game up with a new weapon to test. The Quad LAW. A few of us went out to the dump to witness a live fire test. It was pretty impressive but ungainly. I don't think it ever went into production.

Never heard of a quad law, but these are impressive

Whenever, we went to the dump it was as a detail to guard the 6X6 carrying the trash. Did not let the trash pickers get to close. Sometimes they were looking to plant a "present" on the truck. M16's kept them away.......

Yep. The trash pickers were not always friendly, aka VC. I have a picture of a couple of them somewhere, moving smartly away from the action. I'll see if I can find it.

At Marble Mountain They caught a "House Mouse" placing two cans of C-4 with a detonator tied together on the mounts to the gas tanks on 6 X 6's. Had to watch all as it was hard to tell friend from foe at times.

Haven't found the dump pics yet but I thought I'd post these. The guy decided to di di mau when we showed up with a nine ship formation. The other is just some locals watching their village get remodeled.

Sorry about the thread drift.

Had a Sp. 4 in AIT that was 40, had been E-6 before his drinking got him busted few times. IIRC he was trying to get Sp.5/ E-5 and retire. Cant remember all the MOS's he had…

I knew two Marines that retired as Sgt. (E-5). I am not sure if they were ever busted. Both had problems with the bottle.

Retired as an E-5? I think he was lucky, or real good at what he did, to make it to retirement. On #3, I kinda' feel sorry for the Lt. ;)

This was before there were rules against that. They instituted an "Up or Out" in the 1980's. If you had not made S/Sgt./E-6 by 10 years of service then you were finished at the end of your present enlistment. I think the Navy has/had something along the same lines. Did know a guy that made GySgt./E-7 in four years, and now there are rules against that also.

Good morning for a Friday. I did know a Marine that made P.F.C. three times, he did a four year tour and was a P.F.C. when he got out.

My younger step brother was in 4 years and never was a PFC. He went home from time to time without taking leave.

When I was the corporal of the guard on the main area of Camp Pendelton the Sgt of the guard had almost 18 1/2 years in. He was on permanent guard duty until retirement. He had quite a few combat awards etc and was unbelievably Gung HO. But, also kind of an idiot to be blunt and a bit of a legend for his over the top actions.

In the month I was on guard duty he pulled his 45 twice. Once 2 guys (not on guard duty) missed morning roll call, he went to their barrack, woke them up and marched them to their captain in their skivvies with his 45. I am sure it left a lasting impression. Then, I was in the mess hall with him, we were both armed and therefor had our covers on. He jumps some S bird pfc (faded utilities, unshined brass and boots etc) for having his cover on. Pfc responds you have yours on, so, Thurston whips out his 45 and says "yes, but I am armed". Serious as the heart attack I almost had.

The most interesting rank thing I ever saw was while I was going to school in Quantico, The barrack next to us had guys waiting for discharge. One of them was a PFC with 6 hash marks. I wondered if they were all he got left or if he had been promoted from being busted to PVT
