It was just announced that the DeLorean Motor Company plans to build a manufacturing facility for electric cars here in San Antonio. Apparently this company has nothing to do with the original DMC, but seems to be in the business of rebuilding and servicing original DeLorean cars. No schedule has been announced, will probably be several years at least. It doesn't seem to be a large operation as they said that it will initially employ only about 450 people. There was apparently an ad spot during the Super Bowl yesterday, but I did not see it.

The originals were absolute garbage. I had 2 customers who owned them. One was a stubborn Dr. who refused to get rid of it after the third or fourth disaster. It finally burnt to the ground one day on his way to work. It was a good idea that went very wrong. That's what happens when you promise the stars and deliver klinkers..

The Humble, TX location has been in the resto/repair business for several years. As always, as a startup/small business I hope they make it, but suspect it will be a hard road.

I would buy one if it had the optional Mr. Fusion trash reactor.

Wow

I thought it was ugly when it was first brought out....

Now I have to say that it's even more butt ugly if the pic shown in post #1 is accurate for the new one...

Ughhhhh....!!

I remember ever seeing only one DeLorean on the highway. I did see one at an estate sale maybe 10-12 years ago, looked like it just came off the showroom floor (did DeLorean even have showrooms?). The owner wanted $10K for it. I sort of wish I had bought it but it definitely was not something I needed at the time.

Way back one of the guys I knew borrowed his brothers Delorean and brought it to a car show. It did attract a bit of attention.

After I did get a ride in it and wow was it under powered.

The way it was set up putting a better bigger engine in it was almost impossible. Prohibitively economically unfeasible. Needless to say they did not go over too well with the go-fast crowd.:D

Better luck to this new rendition if it ever comes to hit the road.

There was one of the History Channel series episodes not too long ago which went into the DeLorean saga fairly deeply, and was well worth watching. One major blunder was DeLorean setting up his plant in the middle of a Northern Ireland war zone. But he got a big subsidy from the British to put it there. Nothing better than fine Irish automotive craftsmanship in the middle of a war zone. Sort of like the cutting-edge Serbo-Croatian automotive engineering of the Yugo under similar circumstances.

The DeLorean used a 140 HP French-made engine. The big problem was that the DeLorean's body turned out to be too heavy for the weak engine to provide much acceleration. It also became far more expensive to build than was originally planned. A perfect merger of high cost and low performance.

a friend had a successful auto body shop back in the day, owner of a De Lorean got broadsided and had the car towed to the body shop without any prior notification. My friend took one look at it and said 'stainless steel, huh...try the body shop down the street, I want no part of it'...lol

The PRV engine (Peugeot Renault Volvo) was a **** !
Unpowerfull, drinks gas more than you drink water, poor reliability.
And it’s a French who says it :D
