The Russians have gone in

Let's hope so, although the pic in that link suggests that fuel wasn't the problem for that tank's predicament:

Yep, looks like a a big IED!

Ukraine needs:

Shoulder fired anti tank missiles
Shoulder fired anti aircraft missiles
Howitzers
Anti-tank mines
Rockets and rocket launchers
Lots of ammunition for all of the above
The resolve of the free world to get it done

The tank off the side of the
road, note its right tow line
is extended. I think the
crew is just awaiting AAA
to arrive.

And the Ukraine Highway
Dept. forgot to post a
"Caution, Soft Shoulder"
sign.

Being a tank driver has
its down sides.

Because of the Javelins, Stingers, and other goodies as well as 8 years of coordinated military training though the Embassy ODC. We've helped them reform their audit systems, their Patrol Police, and advised on all kinds of civil society improvements to help with eventual EU accession. The EU helps as much or more than we do.

Ukrainian pilots have arrived at an airbase in Poland, to take possession of donated planes of the type they are currently trained to fly.

28 MiG-29s from Poland, 12 from Slovakia and 16 from Bulgaria, along with 14 Su-25s from Bulgaria.

Sadly the EU and NATO countries
misspoke about providing those
planes to Ukraine.

But since they are surplus and of
no use to the nations that have
them, those planes will end up
somewhere. A disinterested
private company will buy them
and profit from them as it wishes.

Far from being surplus, those planes are basically Bulgaria's and Slovakia's entire air force. The Bulgarian and Slovak Air Forces have no other combat jets in their inventories. This would also reflect a not-insignificant amount of the Polish Air Force's current aerial combat capacity, with its nearly 30 MiG-29s still flying alongside almost 50 F-16 C/D Vipers of various blocks.

Watching the news the last couple of days, a few thoughts come to mind...

* It's really good to see CNN return to what Ted Turner originally intended it to be: a flexible and multi-faceted news organization, able to cover these types of stories like no one else. They're doing a terrific job.

* One of the surprises from last night's CNN interview with President Zelensky was that he speaks English quite well...I had no idea. He looks terrible, as you would expect: weary, sleep-deprived, etc. I can't imagine the stress he's under right now.

* If I hear another commentator speculate on whether Putin has committed "war crimes", I swear I'll scream. The moment his army crossed the border into Ukraine, he committed a war crime, and everything the evil thug has done since then is just the icing in the cake. The Russian army is targeting civilian facilities and infrastructure that have no military purpose or value; how long will the civilized world watch this go on, and address it only through sanctions?

The link below is to the United Nations' definition of what constitutes "war crimes"...

This explains the crisis in a nutshell.

"So, Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So basically, that's wrong." VP, 3/1/22.

For all the blustering put on by the U.S. and the EU, I believe that the Ukraine is doomed. I hope I am wrong. Sad to see lives lost in vain. Sanctions are good for the short term, but ways will be found around them eventually or they will be dropped as they are effecting other countries economies.

I hope everyone remembers that we and the UK guaranteed Ukraine's borders if they gave up their nukes. They did their part.

MEMORANDUM ON SECURITY ASSURANCES IN CONNECTION WITH UKRAINE'S ACCESSION TO THE TREATY ON THE NON-PROLIFERATION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Budapest, 5 December 1994

The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,

Welcoming the accession of Ukraine to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as a non-nuclear-weapon State,

Taking into account the commitment of Ukraine to eliminate all nuclear weapons from its territory within a specified period of time,

Noting the changes in the world-wide security situation, including the end of the Cold War, which have brought about conditions for deep reductions in nuclear forces.

Confirm the following:

The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the CSCE Final Act, to respect the Independence and Sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine.

The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, reaffirm their obligation to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine, and that none of their weapons will ever be used against Ukraine except in self-defense or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.

The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the CSCE Final Act, to refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by Ukraine of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.

The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, reaffirm their commitment to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine, as a non-nuclear-weapon State Party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used.

The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, reaffirm, in the case of the Ukraine, their commitment not to use nuclear weapons against any non-nuclear-weapon State Party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, except in the case of an attack on themselves, their territories or dependent territories, their armed forces, or their allies, by such a state in association or alliance with a nuclear weapon state.

The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will consult in the event a situation arises which raises a question concerning these commitments.

This Memorandum will become applicable upon signature.

Signed in four copies having equal validity in the English, Russian and Ukrainian languages.

Right track looks to be damaged or drive sprocket or road wheels as its canted. Easiest way to stop any track is its tracks.

Once the thousands of anti-tank rockets currently en route make it into the hands of Ukranian freedom fighters, any airframe under 10,000' and all Russian ground armor and troop carriers will be targets of opportunity.
Let's see how the Russians like this war when their sons begin returning home in body bags by the truckload.
