Guitars

OMG yes, LOL.

Remove: 3 4 6 7 9 11 17 20

Then, plug-in Tommy Emmanuel, Al DiMeola, Paco DeLucia, Billy Strings,
Joe Satriani, Django Reinhardt, Steve Howe, and Rik Emmett in any order
you choose.

Names missing from the list,

Roy Buchanan, the greatest guitar player you never heard of, hands down.

Steve Cropper, the number of gold records he's associated with is staggering.

Bo Diddley, if Chuck Berry is going to be on the list.

Rory Gallagher, when someone asked Jimi Hendrix what it was like to be the greatest guitar player on the planet, he replied "I don't know, you'd have to ask Rory Gallagher."

I would have added Dick Dale to the list.

I don't think Ricky Medelocke gets near enough credit. Joe Walsh is among my favorites as well.

While Jimmy Hendrix was innovative in his day, he shouldn't make the list of 1000 greatest guitar players.

And Neil Young? PFFFT!!!

Thinking about it, it would be near impossible to make any music listener happy with any "best of" or "top 20, 50, 100," but to be a little more fair and/or more accurate, one would almost have to break down the musicians by genre. Of course, some played any style you want, but this came from RS Magazine which if I remember correctly was about Pop & Rock music. Look at the Rock & Roll hall of Pretty Good over in Cleve Land. There are people/groups in there that don't even fit in the R&R category.
As far as Neil Young goes, the only reason I would ever own any of his albums would be to get people to leave my house when they stay too long. Definitely one of the best buzz-killers of all time! I do believe if one doesn't make it to Heaven, there's a room down below with the best surround sound system ever made and there's a continuous loop tape of him singing & playing, with Yoko Ono singing (or squeaking) backup.

When Johnny Carson asked Chet Atkins if there was any guitarist better, he said "Yes. Tommy Crook from Tulsa Oklahoma." Check this out [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlBUuOM8G1o&t=24s[/ame]

Not really into music, and know nothing about it but what I've stumbled over.
People have dragged me some to shows over the years that have left a good impression.
One was B.B. King.
Another was a guy named Jorma Kaukonen we accidentally came across, playing at a little roadhouse in the Maine woods.

Edit: Saw Santana play once, but he was annoying because every time he went into playing fancy, he'd turn his back to the audience.

Good thread. Really like the responses. I expect this list would get feedback as varied as the stars!

If we are just talking rock n roll, I like the list mostly. Neil Young gotsta go-can't stand the man. Replace him with somebody (anybody) else! I would like to see a few others on there like Satriani and some of the others folks have posted here, but in general, no major complaints. .

I think somebody mentioned Roy Clark already, but he could be on this list. Dude was a virtuoso that could play anything with strings, in just about any style or genre and however he wanted.

He and Brad Paisley both.

Blues music? Oh, that'd be a completely different thread.
