1006 mags

I was fortunate to find a fellow member that sold me one for 60 bucks shipped.

I recently bought a 1006 and it came with single mag with the angled yellow follower. I went ahead and dropped in a new spring and white follower for good measures.

Just for another opinion and limited hands-on experience…

I had always wondered about the evolution of the 10xx magazine follower. My 1006 was purchased new by my friend in summer 1992 and I bought it from him in 1994 or maybe 1995? It came with two mags, both yellow follower. Years back I added more mags to my cache but just in the chase for more experience… I chose to hardly ever use the white follower mags and I just used the heck out of my old school original yellow follower mags.

I figured "well, if I'm gonna see a malfunction related to the yellow follower mags, I'll know!"

I'll try to be fast with this list.

Factory Winchester 180gr JHP, 180gr FMJ. Winchester 175gr Silvertip JHP. Federal 180gr JHP. Federal Hydra-Shock JHP. Old school Black Hills blue box re-man, assorted flavors. Zero re-man 180gr JHP. Buffalo Bore 180gr JHP. Remington… hmmm 200gr FMJ, maybe? Most of these from the 1990's. Some Silvertip and the Buffalo Bore from the 2000's.

Handloads: Nosler 150gr JHP. Locally cast 175gr SWC and 200gr cast TC FP's. Precision Delta 180gr FMJ. Hornady 180gr XTP and 200gr FMJ. Federal 180gr HST. And perhaps more I've forgotten.

All of the above (ALL) with no failures to fire, feed, extract, or eject and all while using original 1992 yellow follower magazines.

YMMV but my mileage hasn't varied. :D

No matter the specific model, it's hard to see the value of an S&W 10mm going down anytime soon - unless the firearm is mean mistreated (source: "Mean Mistreater," Grand Funk Railroad, 1970).

Sorry, I'm an Old Guy . . .

Later.

I really liked my 1006. She was some kind of wonderful.

Old guy here too.

Following this thread, I checked my 10XX mag stash yesterday.

7 mags in a small plastic box marked "practice mags."

8 mags in another box relegated for "carry" mags, as between my 1006 and 1076.

All have white followers and Wolff XP mag springs. Never had a functional issue with any of them. Not once.

Then found I had three more never-used mags with white followers, still in their unopened, plastic, S&W factory boxes.

Your bidding on those may begin ... at $500.00 per.

Gotta pay if you wanna play in Old School 10mm Landia. ;)

I have NOTHING to add to the discussion of 1006 mags. (Other than I think I have enough. ;))

I just wanted to drift the thread a wee bit because of DCW's and RGPM1A'S references to Grand Funk Railroad.

I liked most of their music, but I once EMPTIED out a party by playing "Inside Looking Out" at high volume on the stereo.

I loved it, but it seems GFR may have a limited fan base. . .

As you were.

My brother has had a Model 1006 since it came out and I think I have shot it more than he has. So last week I made him an offer to buy it and to my surprise, he just gave it to me with the two original magazines that came with it. I have never had a problem shooting this gun and I love it.

A month ago I also picked up the new S&W Shield 10 so now I have two 10mm guns.

I am now searching for the mags for 1006 to have some backup ones just in case. Seeing a lot of them priced at over $115, but no choice but to price what the market wants

Myself and several other forum members built a number of 1006 magazines from cobbled together parts from both Midway USA and Numerich a few years back. As stated above that fishing hole has been fished to death as the magazine bodies dried up.

I might have bought the last few remaining magazine bodies from Numerich last year. Of course wish now I had bought more and not sold the 3 from the first batch. Hindsight and all.

I am a 10mm fan. First I bought two 610's. Gave one to my son. Next I built a 1013 and it worked very good. Then made on for my son. Liking Glocks I bought a G20. Frame size a little big for me. Bought a 1066 with two mags. This was a very good pistol. Shot a lot and really enjoyed it. Found four new mags for $10 each about 2012. Finally built an AR PCC in 10mm. That was a real challenge to get running but it is good now. As a confession I must admit to grinding of the guide bumps on a few Smith mags so they would fit into the 4013.

I unfortunately am back in the "looking for mags" crowd. I cobbled together two spares for my 1006 before the GPC magazine bodies sold out, but have since acquired a S&W model 1076 that only had a single mag. The hunt always continues.

Good luck and bring your wallet. One might think Mec-Gar or Metalform would see what factory mags are selling for and do a couple runs of replacements.

Yep, the 10mm mag scene has gottten crazy in the past few years. I am fortunate enough to have 10 of em, with one still in the blister pack. I've also accumulated a bunch of followers. Just gotta keep looking. I now only buy if they're under $75.

Yeah I have a bunch of magazine parts (for two additional mags) I just didn't have the foresight to buy extra magazine bodies before GPC sold them all. It's just one of those things when you collect.:D

I have a 1066 and a 1006, both of which came with 2 mags each. I rebuilt them with new springs, white followers and new baseplates from Midway for about 40 bucks total. Realistically, that's all I will ever need for guns like that which don't see regular use, and if rebuild parts are available I'm good. I always search the gun shop mag bins but if I never find another one I will be ok with the four I have. I wouldn't ever pay $100 for one, let alone $200 like they are listed for now. That's crazy.

I am a S&W 3rd Gen 10mm fanatic! I have 1-1006, 2 NIB 1026's, 1-1046, 2 1066's (one is NIB), 1-NIB 1076 and 1-1086. I have purchased 10mm mags for the last 10 yrs. A forum member sold me several as well. I do have the yellow, white and maybe black (not sure) followers. BUT I did not know the 2 variations of the yellow followers! Interesting! Great pistols!

Cheers!!!
